I've read a lot of health, whole foods, even "the sleep book" books, but this book did teach me a thing or two more about my body, offered up food combinations for better health, and while there are no official recipes (please do a cookbook Cam!), it is still a really enjoyable read! I would recommend this book to friends, anyone wondering why they don't feel right in their body, anyone wanting to improve their whole self, and definitely holding on to it for my daughters. It will help when our talks evolve into specifics which delve into the topic of sex in a girlfriends-out-for-coffee or wine sort of way, casual, but scientific, honest but fun. I want them to not feel ashamed of their bodies, powerful with knowledge, and to know even the models get made fun of as kids, just be yourself and love the body you are in.

You know those kids books that are like “my amazing body” or “what’s inside my body”? They always have cartoons of muscles and skeletons and they teach you like the basic functions of your human body. This book is that same book but for adults. Absolutely the easiest way to describe it. That said it was well informed and scientific. There was nothing in here that flagged as “of an era” health information because it was really grounded and clear. And somehow that fun, inspiring voice of Cameron Diaz was like a great delivery system for the information. It’s not that she told me anything I didn’t know, but it was fun and made me feel ready to try some new things and love my body a little bit more. So I’m not sure why I picked it up, but like if you want a feel good, scientifically grounded inspirational read about being healthy then by all means this was good!

So Cameron D is my girl and I love her. At least based on her interviews, she is super chill and loves to have a good time. I liked best about this book the explanation of hunger and what exactly are body is doing when we are hungry vs. when we have an appetite. Some of her advice rang a little false (like how she loves to do her own chores....as one of the highest paid female movie stars in the US...) but all in all I liked the message.

This book has a wonderful field to the way it is perceived by the reader. Cameron Diaz's written words are to encourage anyone who might be struggling with their weight, eating habits and/or an exercise routine. She breaks down simple truths about fighting for what you want out of your life. This book is a refreshing break from the "how to's" of dieting and exercising books.

I mean, nothing about this book is particularly bad. I don't really have the foggiest idea why I decided to read it. It was somehow absolutely fine as a basic book with an overview of body and nutritional science, but that's not something I need in my life, because I have read a lot more in depth research about stuff. The tone was friendly and conversational, but not so much so that it stood out as a health book that is fun nor as a serious science book, so that's too bad. It was pretty nondescript. So whatever, I guess. If you like lady magazines, this is worth a read. If you like in depth research, not so much. If you like a distinct voice in your nonfiction, this is not for you either.

This book doesn’t seem entirely necessary. Diaz gives some motivational advice throughout, but doesn’t share any new ideas or information about healthy eating and lifestyles.

"I’m not a scientist. I’m not a doctor. What I am is a woman who has spent the past fifteen years learning about what my body is capable of, and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life." -Cameron Diaz
As an amateur health nut and Cameron Diaz enthusiast, I was beyond excited when I heard that Cameron Diaz was coming out with The Body Book. That being said, I knew that a lot of celebrity-healthy-living types of books tended to not be great, so I decided to skip out on purchasing a hard copy until borrowing it from a library or friend. The book was released in late 2013, and I just now got around to reading it - whoopsie!
The Body Book starts out by explaining why we eat, how we eat, and what we need to eat to stay alive. Diaz takes a realistic approach to food - instead of shaming readers who enjoy the occasional Big Mac, she explains that she allows herself one once in a while and that it’s all about moderation. It really made me think about what I eat on a daily basis- wow, are there really that many preservatives in my favorite granola bars? Also, side note: Cameron Diaz does not like sugar. Is she human?
Regarding the fitness portion of the book, I really enjoy science, so I kind of nerded out. Diaz managed to break down complicated bodily systems that take doctors years and years to thoroughly understand into little bits and pieces so that the average reader would be able to understand. Granted, this section was a bit dull at points, but that just had to do with the subject at hand rather than the writing. Once she got into more of a “how-to” tone of voice, I was definitely hooked. I highlighted quite a bit of this section. I really enjoyed her genuine love of fitness. She has a purpose to keep her body healthy and active rather than to stay a certain weight or burn off calories.
The concept surrounding her book that got the most attention had to do with her explanations of the body - there is no stone left unturned. You get me ladies - she gets to the nitty gritty about your lady parts. I may or may not have had a flashback to sophomore year health class when I saw the diagram, but all-in-all it was painless.
The final section of the book has to do with the human mind- forming habits, confidence, etc. I will admit that I rolled my eyes when I got to the bit about the “Mind-Body Connection,” but immediately was drawn in by how non-cliche Diaz’s writing was about the subject. I really liked that this section came last - food feeds body, body directs mind, mind determines food, and so on and so forth.
All in all, I give this book 4 stars. It takes a lot to get a 5 out of me! I’ll definitely pick up my own copy of The Body Book to have around my apartment and remind myself to take care of my body when I’m feeling down.

The Body Book is told in a optimistic, friendly and humorous voice of Cameron Diaz and is a compilation of boring information explained in a very simple manner, giving a lot of understandable and relatable examples.
The book does not speak of anything new or controversial, yet it is very useful in the sense that it helps you remember all the things you already know and keep inspiring you to try hard to be healthy, so you can live a long and happy life.
This is definitely a book to highlight passages and tips and revisit them as often as needed.
