The Hookup Plan by Farrah Rochon
4.0
Drew and London were everything! Farrah Rochon ended this series with a bang because this is definitely the best book out of the three. I loved seeing these two academic rivals from high school grow into their love for each other as adults. The shared history the two had made their romance feel so much stronger than the other couples we saw in the previous books. Their chemistry when they were just hooking up to me feeling all gooey inside when they were so clearly falling for each other. I loved every second of it. This book did feel like it dragged and focused too much on the hospital plot line. It did make me feel as if I was watching Grey’s Anatomy so I didn’t mind it too much.
Five Survive by Holly Jackson
5.0
HOLLY JACKSON IS THAT GIRL. None of these YA thrillers authors are bringing it like her (not you Tiffany D. Jackson) and it’s sad at this point. To go from a hit series to now a hit stand alone, Holly Jackson deserves all the praise, she just never misses. This book was just incredible. Once the plot started going I was locked in. I love a contained, isolated thriller and this was everything. Red was such an interesting POV because the way her mind worked and the way we didn’t know exactly what she was thinking was really well done. The relationships between all the character made the mystery so much better because the group dynamic factored in to the story. The stakes were just so high and Holly Jackson never took her foot off the brakes. The plot twists and THAT ENDING OMG! Literally if you needed a sign please go RUN not walk to this read this book.
Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert
5.0
Talia Hibbert, what can’t you do at this point? This book was everything I wanted. This is just proof that enemies to lovers in YA romance is way better than in adult romance. The progression of Celine and Brad’s relationship to childhood best friends to enemies to friends to lovers was so much fun to read about. I think what i liked most about this book was the banter and how these two were great on their own and amazing together. Brad being this mushy sweetheart and Celine not even believing in having a boyfriend like their dynamic was just so cute. Usually texting in YA books feel very adults not knowing how teens talk but it felt very authentic in this book. Hibbert wrote teenage characters who felt like real teenagers. This was just so fluffy and adorable. The perfect YA contemporary! Talia Hibbert continues to impress me and I hope to see more YA books from her in the future.
Reggie and Delilah's Year of Falling by Elise Bryant
4.0
This book was the sweetest. Being able to see Delilah and Reggie fall in love throughout an entire year was such a god premise. With them literally meeting on New Year’s Eve it reminded me of the first High School Musical movie. I love the coincidences of them always running into each other on holidays and how both Delilah and Reggie noticed it and made it their thing. I’m not going to lie with the whole Delilah having a crush on Charlie in the beginning I thought Elise Bryant was going to make the same mistake she did in her debut. I thought most of the story was going to be Delilah realizing Charlie wasn’t right for her, but thank God it wasn’t. As the title describes the magic of this book is Delilah and Reggie. I loved seeing them grow more confident in themselves through meeting each other. I love seeing nerdy Black boys in YA and shy Black girls in YA. I love the representation for dyslexia and chronic migraines in the story too. Delilah and Reggie together were just the absolute cutest. I love seeing Elise Bryant grow. With each one of her novels she gets better.
Death by Society by Sierra Elmore

I’m a bit confused… Was there a part that I missed that would make me want Carter to be friends with the girls that tormented her and drove her to attempt suicide? I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. I’m so happy about Carter being on the journey to recovery and rediscovering her hope for living. This story dealt with so many raw issues and in such a caring way. I will give the author her flowers for that but this ending was very umm interesting. Why am I supposed to forgive Abby and the other popular girls for bullying Carter for years? I feel like I’m in the twilight zone. Abby’s few month redemption arc and sad backstory doesn’t move me or excuse her behavior. Like this book would’ve been so much better if Abby felt what Carter felt for months and that’s why she finally rights her wrongs. Her character arc was forced and rushed. Maybe I’m just a vengeful petty person but I wouldn’t have forgiven these girls if my life depended on it. Sorry not sorry.
Friday I'm in Love by Camryn Garrett
4.0
Camryn Garrett’s books always have such a warmth to them. I love reading them knowing how much care she put into these delicate topics. I think sapphic romance needs to be more prominent in YA and I love supporting books like these. Mahalia and Siobhan were really cutesy and I adored the declaration of love at the end. At first I did think Siobhan was playing Mahalia but then I realized they’re still kids and she probably didn’t know how to handle her queer awakening. I loved how the Danny situation was handled and how they almost didn’t give him the time of day. Reading about two Black queer girls being in love and having a community around them that was so accepting and supportive was very touching. Also I just realized I finished this book on Friday :)
Whiteout by Nicola Yoon, Dhonielle Clayton, Ashley Woodfolk, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas

Why did this book feel like trudging through snow? It was literally only 300 pages but it was dragging so bad. Maybe this was because some of these chapters were almost 50 pages long like what was the thought process??? This book just didn’t have the spark Blackout did. All the stories had almost the same plot line except one. All the couples or friends broke up due to miscommunication and stupidity just for them to get back together, yay. Each chapter was just forced recaps and flashbacks of these relationships. We never got to see any of their relationships except one blossoms from something new. They all had history and where’s the fun in that? Blackout had such a variety and each story left me wanting more. In this book I was waiting for each story to end so I could get it over with. It was really bad so bad that I didn’t even care for the ending between Sola and Stevie. I was just praying for it to be over.
What a Match by Mimi Grace
4.0
This book was actually so funny. I found myself busting out laughing multiple times throughout the story. This couple was just very cute and Anthony silently pining for Gwen for all these years was just the cherry on top. Anthony and Gwen were so annoying with how they couldn’t realize the other person’s feelings for them but it made the ending that much more satisfying. I think I’m growing to really like the grumpy x sunshine character dynamic especially when the grumpy is not mean but just broody. Mimi Grace is one to watch and I can’t wait for the next romance in this series.

The Getaway by Lamar Giles
5.0
THIS BOOK WAS CRAZY! I don’t even know how to describe this book it’s like a sci-fi, dystopian, and a thriller all in one. The other reviews who have related this to Black Mirror are so spot on it has the futuristic element and the fucked up situation. The buildup was amazing the whole time you wanted to know what was really behind this seemingly perfect safe haven. Little by little Lamar Giles chips away at this fairytale that these characters thought they were living and it soon turns into a nightmare. This story was literally so gripping so many twists and turns. It was a pretty long thriller in my opinion but the pacing was perfection. The story never dragged even in the beginning when nothing thrilling was happening but there were building the foundation for later on. This book was a great surprise because I barely heard anything about it and now it’s a 5 star read from me. All I know is EAT THE RICH!
Reel by Kennedy Ryan
5.0
WOW THIS BOOK WAS NOTHING SHORT OF BREATHTAKING! I always say that Kennedy Ryan can’t write a short book but she also can’t write a bad one. Neevah and Canon were captivating like their love story had me from the beginning. Canon not wanting to make the mistake of sleeping with an actress in his film again and Neevah not wanting to ruin her big break like I loved the stakes. I also really enjoyed the will they wont they build up towards the beginning. They were almost instantly attracted to each other but Kennedy Ryan made us wait and it paid off big time. Canon and Neevah’s chemistry was literally insane like I couldn’t help but to smile because both of them were goners. They were so in love, I absolutely loved it. I feel like I’ve read a lot of okay romances lately where it was cute but this one has my entire heart. The story didn’t just have a gripping romance but Neevah dealing with lupus and the strained relationship with her sister all tied into this story so well. Reel had all the makings to be a beautiful love story but somehow it blew my expectations out the water. This was just excellent like woah! Romance will never be the same after this book because I found a new standard.
