Vanessa Jared's Got a Man by LaQuette

Maybe I shouldn’t have read this right after reading Reel. This book was just okay. I definitely thought the first half was stronger than the last half. I thought Michael and Vanessa were cute but it was not insta lovey because we went from instant attraction to hooking up to being in love all within a span of a week. I wanted more from the buildup and from their connection. It was just BOOM they were in love when they barely knew each other. Their chemistry was very hot though. This book was short and it packed in a lot but the main focus of the romance between Michael and Vanessa felt a little lackluster to me. I also never really cared about any of their characters to a strong degree. As the story went on I got less and less interested. I never found myself fully invested in the story.

I love when the man falls in love first and Cassian fell hard for Jolie. This love story captured my heart and all of my attention. I feel like I want more though in this book we rarely got intimate moments between the couple. Like their chemistry was amazing from the first encounter but I wanted to see them fall in love with each other, more. This could have easily been a five stars if their connection was shown more instead of the author just telling us. The grand gestures at the end melted my heart like Cassian was a fool in love and I loved every second of it. Jolie’s tumultuous with her mother and brother and Cassian’s story with his family being hit by a drunk driver pulled me in to really care for these characters. The story felt whole but I think the romance still could have been fleshed out some more.

OH I’M IN LOVE! How did a graphic novel under 100 pages make cry… I have no idea. This story captures Black sisterhood while also highlighting different Black hairstyles. The culture and the community featured in this short graphic amazed me. Everything from the colors on the page to the characters was just vibrant and full of life. I need to buy this book this instant!

As a book lover this book was the cutest thing ever. I love the You’ve Got Mail esque email exchange we got from Lily and Nick in the beginning. I was hooked on Lily and Nick’s love story from their first encounter. The two of them kissing then Nick saying they shouldn’t have done that and then repeat did piss me off a bit. It got annoying like either kiss her and get together or leave her alone. BUT this book had me SEATED like I was in it for the long haul. I loved the difference in their family dynamics and the comfort that they found in one another. All the book references and book dates just warmed my heart. I’m so happy that Kristina Forest took a chance in writing her first adult romance!

The way I read this as a comedy like I don’t know if the author meant it to be funny but I was laughing so much. This was highly entertaining like it almost felt like watching a lifetime movie. It was nothing spectacular but I did read it in one sitting. Neena was unhinged and very unlikable but I loved reading from her perspective. Thrillers really do benefit with characters like these because it’s just so interesting to be inside their heads. This was just so much fun to read!

This scratched an itch that hasn’t been scratched since I watched Lost. Blake Crouch has a wonderful way of weaving in fear and uneasiness through his stories. I was scared out of my mind for Ethan, our main character that we’re following. Ethan’s will to live is and the trust he had for himself is actually insane. Blake Crouch has started building a world that is creepy and eerie and I can’t way to find out how Ethan’s story ends.

This book didn’t bead the second book in a trilogy curse BUT by the end of it I wanted so much more. The last 50 pages of this book was nothing short of excellence. Blake Crouch just knows exactly what to do to leave readers wanting more. The twists and turns had me gasping out loud. I love how we got more perspectives in this one and how each one tied together to make sense of the complete story. Blake Crouch’s needs to be studied because how is he this brilliant it’s insane.

FAKE DATING THEY WILL NEVER MAKE ME HATE YOU! I whole heartedly loved this book. The dynamic of Jack and Hannah was just so amazing. Hannah making him laugh all the time unintentionally was so freaking funny. But then you hear him tell her he rarely laughs except when he’s with her and you can’t help but read it with a dumb grin on your face. The first real kiss that Jack and Hannah shared was long awaited but worth every bit of the wait. I can’t even explain how perfectly this couple fit together. Falling in love with a movie star as a “plain Jane” really brought out the main character’s insecurities but I thought it was realistic. By the end though Hannah learned to work through her insecurities and not let them control her life anymore. The whole book Hannah was questioning if she was loveable and it just warms my heart that she finally got to experience what being loved truly is

“I came here to tell you I love you, Charlie. I don’t think I know how to not love you.” Excuse me while I go scream into my pillow! Reality tv dating shows and romance books are like my two favorite things ever so I knew this would be a match made in heaven for me. This whole love story was just so complicated but just so full of warmth and comfort. Charlie and Dev finding their way to each other through the process of the show was just the cutest thing ever. Charlie not thinking he would even be capable of in falling in love and Dev not believing deep down that he deserves to have this fairytale love story, like ugh. Charlie and Dev seemed to have these fights every two chapters but honestly with Charlie being the lead on a Bachelor esque reality show and Dev being a producer I understood why there were so many conflicts. At times I wanted to strangle them for not realizing how much they belonged with each other but at times I just wanted to give them the biggest hugs. I’m a sucker for a over the top declaration of love and this book definitely delivered.
