The Walking Dead, Vol. 18: What Comes After by Charlie Adlard, Cliff Rathburn, Robert Kirkman

Although I have always enjoyed The Walking dead graphic novels, I must agree with everyone else that lately there has not been much going on. In Volume 18:What Comes After this is not the case at all. Carl, Michonne, and Maggie all start to develop their own story lines while still following Negan's story. They also introduce a new neighboring town, The Kingdom. In my review for Vol.17:Something to Fear I praised TWD for being so realistic, The Kingdom does not follow this rule, but I was still pleasantly surprised by its appearance. This has made me even more anxious for the next book that I have decided to start buying the single issues as they come out.

I do not agree with everyone else who says that Negan is too much like the Governor. The similarity between them begins and ends with them both being major villains who want control. The Governor kept his bad side a secret from the majority of Woodbury, while Negan's community all clearly fear him. I think Kirkman purposely made the two similar to show the reader's how much Rick has changed since the prison, but I do not think Negan is just a copy of the Governor.

I'm a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland and I love this retelling. I have read the first two issues of the newest mini series in Zenescope's Wonderland series, Wonderland Down the Rabbit Hole, luckily because it tells the origin of Calie and her family so I wasn't completely lost. Being the start of a new series it went by slow so that it could establish the story. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series, and buying the older story lines too!
My Autobiography Charles Chaplin by Charlie Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin

This book was not what I was expecting it to be, but I found it easy to read regardless. Chaplin does not go into very much detail about his films. Which is disappointing because when he does briefly write about "behind the scenes" subjects from his movies it is really interesting. But enough criticism. Charlie Chaplin cared very much about his friend's ideas and philosophies and this is what he mostly writes about in this book. What I loved most while reading it was that it really gives you an idea of how life in the early 1900's really was, and gives a personality to one of the greatest men in the history of movies.
Rat Queens Vol. 1: Sass & Sorcery by Kurtis J. Wiebe

I have to be honest, the only reason I picked this book up to read is that I love rats and keep them as pets. Although there is no sign of these furry, little rodents, Rat Queens is a hilarious comic about a bad-ass, all female mercenary group. It is intended for adult readers as there are lots of drugs, violence, and sex mentioned/shown.

Rat Queens is funny, gory, and all-around very enjoyable. As a woman who frequents bars and loves partying with her friends, I instantly fell in love with this comic. It helped that they didn't hold back on the violence either, when Hannah breaks her arm it is shown in all of it's blood and gore. And the girls are not completely unscathed after a battle, as is normally the case with the main characters. I love the artwork too. It is not as clean looking as other comics, which only gives it more personality.

The only bad thing about this series is that I still can not figure out who my favorite character is! Violet is realistic and down to earth, and a little quiet, but that does not mean she is any less help to her team. Hannah is the leader, and my least favorite character because she is pretty mean, but not unlikeable. She says hilarious things and (like myself) seems to hate most any girl she is not friends with. Dee's family is part of a squid worshipping cult, and Dee is trying to leave that lifestyle. She does not like crowds of people and can be socially awkward. Betty is simply adorable, and she loves drugs. Although, she seems a little obsessed with sex. But then again who doesn't have a friend who makes sexual references all the time? It is so hard to choose because they all have qualities that I myself have and some that I do not. What's amazing is how each character's personality is portrayed and stands out among the other personalities from the story. Each of these girls are individuals, and it makes this fantasy series a bit more realistic and a lot more enjoyable.

Coffin Hill Vol. 1: Forest of the Night by Inaki Miranda, Caitlin Kittredge

Coffin Hill is an interesting comic and I believe it will get better as it continues. Firstly, I read the single issues and am reviewing them as the first volume to save time, and I have to say I was excited for the new issue to come out every month after issue #2. In the first issue it is not clear if the story would take place in the present or if it would be Eve recounting her high school memories. Luckily it is a comic for adults and as such takes place in present time with lots of flashbacks into Eve's past. Her memories are used to slowly reveal the storyline which adds to the mysterious atmosphere the whole series gives off. The flashbacks are done very well, I didn't have trouble following when in time they took place even though I was waiting a month in between reading the next issue. I think the story will be even more interesting as more and more is revealed.

The artwork is not the best, but it is by no means terrible. My criticism of the story itself is that it is slow, and also that most of the characters aren't exactly likeable (Although I am still not certain that you are supposed to).

The more I think about this book the more I like it. Both Death as the narrator and a German perspective of WWII are clever and make the story a very interesting read. Although there is a story, the main focus of this book is on character development, which I found refreshing. I really enjoyed The Book Theif. However, I think part of the appeal is that it is so unique and if more books were written from death's point of view it might loose this. That being said, Death was one of my favorite characters, he interrupts the flow of the story, he ruins endings, and most of the time is just annoying but I think you are supposed to hate him. After all, how many people do like death?

This was a very informitive and well researched history on elephants in America. It goes through the origins of how America has used elephants as symbols and icons and also chronicles the advances we have made in understanding how to care for elephants properly. I think it is written from a very unbiased view point. It simply tells you all the information you could want to know about elephants without the authors opinons. Some parts are hard to read, and early in elephants history in America they were treated very cruely, but it just makes you appriciate them more.

I didn't like this book as much as the first one in the Bloody Jack series, in fact I thought I was going to give this book a much lower rating until I finished the last 5 chapters or so. Jacky gets put into a girls school to change her ways and make her into a "fine lady". Just like a hundred other stories I've read, however this one kept me guessing at how Jacky would get into trouble next. At times she is realistically naïve and other times her decisions were just stupid. There is a lot going on in this book, and where other reviewers have said they did not like the ending, I was happily surprised by how well it tied everything up.

This addition to the Oz series was by far the worst. It leads the reader on, and on, and on and then ends quickly(and terribly). Even the characters that are introduced are not very likeable! It wasn't all bad, I did like the dragons and thought they were a bit creepy.
