By about 50% I was like right okay I get it, but the last 30% of the book ties everything together and did leave me a little weepy

Easy read, really fun! Not a lot of turmoil in the plot, but a quick and dirty romp. You will fall in love with the characters. I haven't read any of the other books in this series but it was a good stand alone and definitely makes me want to read the others.
Crazy Stupid Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams

I would give the first half of this book 2 stars and the second half 4 stars. I grew to like the two main characters but dang do they beat you over the head with Noah’s anger. I enjoyed the two weaving storylines that meet in the middle with a romance but the resolution of Noah’s anger came so quickly that it was kind of unbelievable. The descriptions of grief and complex family relationships were moving, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t getting brooding Edward and people pleasing Bella vibes from the main characters.

Warning: Negative Review Ahead
I did not enjoy this book and if it hadn't been for the reading goal I set for myself I wouldn't have finished it. I did not enjoy any of the characters, and the expository dialogue toward the end had me audibly groaning. The plot was overly stuffed with unnecessary tangents and about 45 too many characters. The female software developer stereotypes were fully at play here, and as someone who works in software half of the "developer speak" Daisy mentions isn't used in the real world. It seemed overthought, complicated, and unoriginal and needed at least four more rounds through editing.

Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel

Perfectly acceptable book! I think I was swayed into thinking it was less impactful because I had read/watched so much on the Gypsy Rose case and this felt too much like a dramatic retelling of that story. Even down to the name of the characters. I felt that the twist seemed a little far-fetched considering the foundation of knowledge Rose Gold had and how perfectly she would have to execute her plan to frame her mother. By the end I wasn’t really rooting for Rose Gold either, but she was wronged by everyone along the way. Would read this author’s work again!

I was surprised how quickly I made it through this book. The relentless pile-on of miscalculated decisions brings the book to a fever pitch that is palpable.

50 pages or so into this book I thought I knew where it was going. I was wrong. Dark Matter is fast-paced, laden with beautiful imagery and deeply disturbing on many different levels. I will be thinking about this book for a long time.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this book…hence a middling rating. While this is not my usual genre, I quickly fell in love with Watkin’s writing style and many of her descriptions and use of poetic imagery will stick with me for a long time. However…I wish there would have more time developing what promised to be an interesting plot. Instead we were given piles and piles of description to sort through to find the nuggets that moved the plot forward. The best part of this book was when we saw Ray’s perspective from the detention center, it was the only section in the book the reader truly knew what was happening and where we were going next. Unless you love it, this book will leave you shrugging your shoulders whispering to yourself “all of this…for that??”
