Gold Fame Citrus by Claire Vaye Watkins

I’m not quite sure how I feel about this book…hence a middling rating. While this is not my usual genre, I quickly fell in love with Watkin’s writing style and many of her descriptions and use of poetic imagery will stick with me for a long time. However…I wish there would have more time developing what promised to be an interesting plot. Instead we were given piles and piles of description to sort through to find the nuggets that moved the plot forward. The best part of this book was when we saw Ray’s perspective from the detention center, it was the only section in the book the reader truly knew what was happening and where we were going next. Unless you love it, this book will leave you shrugging your shoulders whispering to yourself “all of this…for that??”
