As usual I really enjoyed the commentary on fame and celebrity status that comes with stories like these. For some reason I couldn't help but find the conflict between Gabe and Chani a little immature and annoying to read
A Dowry of Blood is the perfect combination of dark, twisted, beautiful and sexy. It's an absolutely enthralling tale of desire and control, and what it takes to escape the hold they have on us.
S. T. Gibson's writing is hauntingly beautiful. I could not put in down this afternoon.
Although the main focus on military action and planning lost me a little, I can see how this is a great ending to an amazing trilogy. I didn't enjoy that we watched these characters go through so much just to get a "here's what happened" moment at the end of the war, however I can understand why we got that. The book started to border on being a little too long for my liking. The last few pages and the epilogue made me feel sad and hopeful all at once. Knowing that Katniss and Peeta eventually got some form of happiness back felt like a huge relief. God knows they deserve it.
Very happy I finally decided to give this series a go. I loved every minute and the characters felt like family by the end.
I really enjoyed reading these stories of heartbreak. I was able to see myself in all of the narrators in some ways, despite not always having had the exact same experiences as them. The way the stories were laid out in alternating perspectives really kept the pace going and kept me intrigued. Heart Sick is definitely not a light hearted, fun read but if you're looking for something that will make you feel less alone in your grief then this is the perfect read
I can't decide what star rating to give this book yet, but I loved it. I was very weary going into it as I didn't really understand why we needed a book about Carrie after Malibu Rising, nor have I ever really cared for tennis. I was so wrong to think I wouldn't like this. As usual TJR has written an amazingly strong and inspiring female lead who has goes through tremendous heartbreak and character development. Our supporting cast is made up of equally strong and interesting characters. The relationships are well built and the action doesn't stop. The tennis playing is written in a way that kept me engaged and interested each time I picked up the book. This is definitely a favourite from TJR for me, and I'm upset at the news this is likely the last book of hers in this style. I am excited to continue reading her books, no matter what route she goes down next
None of Reid's books are yet to hit me as hard as Evelyn Hugo, but I loved this nevertheless. I have discovered I am definitely the kind of person who loves stories about famous people and their lives. This had everything I love; drama, heartache, flashbacks/backstory, familial love, trauma
This is the second time I've read Rose's story in this series come to an end, but the first time was long enough ago that some aspects still felt new and fresh. Finishing this book up today left me feeling quite emotional. I felt a sense of pride in how far these characters had come and in a way, how far I had come since I first read these books back in high school as well. I think Rose will forever be one of the most bad-ass female characters in Young Adult. Even at (almost) 23 I felt like there was so much to take inspiration from in her journey. Her confidence. Her protective instinct towards her loved ones. And even her forgiveness of herself.
