Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

adventurous challenging dark emotional hopeful sad tense
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? Yes
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? No
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes
Although the main focus on military action and planning lost me a little, I can see how this is a great ending to an amazing trilogy.
I didn't enjoy that we watched these characters go through so much just to get a "here's what happened" moment at the end of the war, however I can understand why we got that. The book started to border on being a little too long for my liking.
The last few pages and the epilogue made me feel sad and hopeful all at once. Knowing that Katniss and Peeta eventually got some form of happiness back felt like a huge relief. God knows they deserve it.

Very happy I finally decided to give this series a go. I loved every minute and the characters felt like family by the end.
