This five-book historical fiction series is set during World War II, and chronicles a Latter-day Saint family during the many events that took place during that time. Dean Hughes does an excellent job at placing characters in the many events of WWII, and providing thorough and accurate details of the events, as well as crafting authentic characters who struggle to deal with the changes both within and without them. The entire series is amazing.

This was a great read and I definitely will read the whole series. I really like historical fiction and Rumors of War did not disappoint in that area. The author does a great job of placing the characters in various areas of the world as World War II begins. Also, the main characters (the Thomas family, and the Stoltz family to a degree) are all fully developed. This is no small task as there are many of them and they are in America, Germany and the Philippines. I love that they are not just shallow, fictional characters. Actually, they are so well developed and believable, that some of them remind me of people I know. Very well written and engaging. I found myself having a hard time putting it down at times.

I loved this book. I read a lot of church history books and having a book set in the WWII era was so fun to read.

I absolutely love this series of books! The WWII era is fascinating to me, and I learned so much. The author has done a great amount of research to make sure things are historically accurate. The characters seemed very real to me, and I enjoyed watching them change through out the books!

We listened to this on audio cd during a road trip. It was so good that we had to stop at Deseret Book on our way back to get the second volume!
The plot is deep. I love that it doesn't follow a cookie-cutter standard but rather deals with real-life family issues that Latter-day Saints face today. Dean Hughes is not a sugar-coater, and I appreciate that in historical fiction!

I loved this series. I was a little hesitant to read this series because I feel like some LDS writers can be a little cheesy. . but this was not the case! Hughes did a wonderful job of showing how war affects everyone. I loved how he had characters not only in America, but in Germany too. I know it's a fictional story, but he did try his best to gather accurate sources to portray how life would have been during World War II. I fell in love with the Thomas family and cried when they cried and laughed out loud in a lot of parts too. I loved how he didn't end the series with the war ending, he went into depth of how the war affected the family afterwards, mainly those who fought in it. It was wonderful to read about how just because a war is over, doens't mean you feel better right away. I would reccommend this series to anyone who wants to read about that time era.

This is a big book that a friend offered me to read. I hadn't heard anything about it and I just didn't feel like reading..anything. But I picked it up and it got interesting. Obviously we know what happened in history but its been fun to read a fictional first hand account of a family. I appreciated the author's research to make the war aspect as authentic as can be. Can't wait to start the next one
