I was not a fan of this book. I liked the idea of the over arching plot that humans had been experimented on and this mixed human animal species came out of it.
They are being hunted down by the group that was experimenting on them but the Tyler family is trying to help bring things out into public light to protect this new species of human/animal hybrid.
At least that’s what I think the overall plot is supposed to be. But what the story is ultimately about is sex. Sooo much sex. Now don’t get me wrong I love a good erotic novel or smut book. I love romance novels and everything in between but when I pick up erotic I expect to read about sex. When I pick up smut it could be anywhere from heavy sex to light plot to heavy plot to slow burn. Romance I expect to be a fair bit of plot with a romantic element, the sex might be graphic or fade to black and there might not be as many scenes.
This book comes off as more erotic than anything else and I think it should more accurately reflect that in its synopsis and labeling.
If I was expecting smut I might have rated this higher but it also had the whole virginal heroine trope which is so overplayed at this point.

Merinus Tyler is the only girl and the youngest of the six brothers in the Tyler family. In the beginning of this book we see her arguing to be the on that makes contact with Callan Lyons. Who she has been fascinated with since she first saw his picture.
Callan Lyons has been running from the Genetics Council, the people who made him for years. And though he knows he should pack up and leave when the snooping little journalist hits town, he can’t help himself but be intrigued with her and play the game a little longer.
I really liked this first novel in the Breeds series. I remember the first time I picked it up I was ….hesitant about it, but it really did pull me in and leave me wishing for more.
The only things I can think of that stop me from giving the full five stars was thinking there should have been more to it, more back ground info and more of a relationship between Merinus and Callan. They were good together and I do think very compatible but we see a lot of their sexual relationship and little of the emotional. So it would have been nice to see more of that.
Other than that it is a great beginning to the series, with a lot that hints at more to come in the next books. I would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a steaming hot read.

I’ve read this series before and remember liking it, but could’n exactly explain the story or plots, so decided to try again and gave it another chance with the audio version. This was not the best audio for me, I think there was too much sex to listen and it didn’t help, but I loved the book. Just discovered that erotica and audio don’t mix right in my brain. There’s always other books for that.
The couple was okay, but I liked Merinus better. Still don’t know where her name came from, but she’s strong and very firm. I liked the way she handled things and never gave up. Callam was the best alpha male, he had a hard time understand the mating and saving everyone at the same time. But he’s very possessive. And I loved the ending. There’s not much of the back story, but we can understand that some humans decided to mix DNA of animals with some human DNA. Callam and the rest of the Pride are these different shifters.

I wanted more from this. My biggest complaint is that it wasn't long enough to fully flesh out the genetic experiment concept. The story never gets a chance to dive into the history of the Council or what purpose the breeds were supposed to serve. The epilogue hints that future books may deal with this, but I'm not sure I can stomach so much alpha posturing again.

This was the first Lora Leigh book I've read, and I can definitely say I'll be reading more from her.
This book was very erotic and kept me interested the entire time, and I look forward to reading the rest in the Breeds series :-) .

i had so many problems with this book..like seriously..firstly Callan is an asshole lol..did not like him at all.i love alpha males.i love reading about them but i hated reading about Callan and his Alpha-hole..Merinus what time name is that gosh..i couldnt even pronounce it well while i was reading. She was irritating and i did not like her. It just got to weird for me and i dont think i will wver read this series. It just i didnt like to think..books are there to enjoy..there was too much thinking going on and i didnt like it
Now in the book both Callan and Merinus were struggling from a mating frenzy which is ridiculous. i mean seriously..sex withdrawal i mean please..The constant need to have or you die type of thing..i found it a bit far fetched..At least the sex scenes were hot.Dialogue was strained. I couldnt keep because i was just confused
2 miserable stars from me. I wanted to give a 1 star but if it wasnt for the sex scenes i would have..oh well...

3.5 stars for me. It was an entertaining read, a lot of sex and not a whole lot of plot. But a decent book and good enough to tempt me into the next book in the series.
