This book was just ok for me. I think it is just a case of FOS and that [a:Lora Leigh|2614|Lora Leigh|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1211464290p2/2614.jpg] just hasn't found her groove yet with the storyline. The story and series have great potential, I just felt that it wasn't explored enough in this book. Every other page was a sex scene and you got very little plot line in between. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for a very good HOT sex scene, however, I don't think that those alone can carry an entire book.
Callan & Merinus did not feel very tangible to me as a couple. When I read a story I want the central characters to jump off the page, grab me by shirt & yank me into their world. With Callan & Merinus I felt very disconnected from them and that, and that coupled with lack of world building, made for a difficult read. I will continue with this series simply because of all the positives that I've heard about and because I absolutely love her other series'. I just pray that it gets better.

I would rate this about a 3.7/5, but I can't do that, so I'll round it up to a 4/5.
I have low expectations when it comes to erotica. They tend to have little story and are essentially just a repetitive string of sex scenes. This one actually surprised me with how good it was. There were solid story and background, so it felt like reading an actual novel. The sex didn't seem pointless because there was a scientific explanation as well as an instinctual one.
If I had to complain about something, it would be the, "I love you," section of the book. It didn't seem real. I can buy Merinus loving Callan because of when she said she started loving him, but I can't buy Callan truly loving her as much. In the animal sense of loving her, yes, but humanly, no. I'm a bit skeptical on that sort of thing when it doesn't happen until after regular sex.

Ok. The book is steamy af. Story is pretty good: a young journalist is searching for a story by the name of a Allan Lyon who’s a whole lion hybrid thing. Shit gets hot when they meet and only get hotter as they spend more time together all the while trying to fight off assassins and government goons. Good shit. My only problem is the misogyny.
I’m ok with a little gruff angry man bein a lil pushy. It’s really the family and writing style of the author.
Basically, it’s giving ✨written by a man✨
The excessive use of “c*nt” and weird descriptions of breasts that anyone with them would be like “nah that’s not how that works”. And the general thought process of the MC’s is very much internalized misogyny.
But really? It’s pretty good. Hot as heck. Good read.

Lots of fucking with a barbed dick. Mates. Going into heat. Need your semen chemicals. Oral and anal. Protective brothers. Secret agencies. Human experiments.
Betrayal, murder, rape, experiments.

I think I read this a long time ago. I much prefer the Laurann Dohner updated series. What is wrong with this book. Random back story all over the place. I wanted to know more, but instead it was just sex scene after sex scene. I also don't like how she had to replace vagina with the C word. Occasionally it is fine, but it seemed like it was just for shock value. The concept on the other hand is fantastic, it would have been one of the first of the genre. I might try another one in the future.

A great new series I'm excited to dive into. This first book of the series is about Callan and Merinus' romance.
I will say that, at first, I wasn't really a fan of Merinus. She kind of bugged me when she kept running from him, even though her body literally needed him. I can understand the fear, but to have the fear of that much hurting without him would be worse, I think. But then again, that could just be me wanting to get to the romance. :)
The other thing that I had a problem with, ironically, is how easily she "fell in love" with him. Although I had a problem with her running during her need, it seemed really random when she said she loved him. She was literally just running from him and not much happened in between to bring her to that point so it didn't make much sense.
Although this is an erotic romance, I know, I wish that there would have been a bit more building of their actual relationship too. They never once had a conversation that delved deep into each others past to reveal something about them that would cause them to break the barrier between lust and love. I don't know, it just seems like a necessary standard in romances to me and I missed it in this one. It seemed all lust and no love.
Not that I don't love a good sex scene, but there were so many in this one that they started to blend together and sound alike. They didn't do as much for me as a book that builds it up and up until it finally comes to an impasse. These just came one right after the other and it wasn't as exciting that way.
But, despite those few things, I did enjoy the book and kept turning the page. I will keep reading the next ones. I'm interested in Kane and Sherra's relationship too so I can't wait for the fourth book to find out more about their story!
