The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore by Kim Fu
2.0
The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore by Kim Fu weaves together a tale of 5 girls from their time at a sleep-away camp all the way through to adulthood. After an incident at Camp Forevermore, these girls have only themselves to rely on in order to make it home.
Initially I had musings of this being akin to Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but I came to realize that The Lost Girls of Camp Forevermore is an entirely separate entity. Upon being introduced to our main characters, Fu is able to capture the young innocent ages of the girls as they attend camp and shows the changes in the years following that fateful summer.
After reading the synopsis, I was immediately drawn in and intrigued to take an amazing journey through the lives of these 5 girls. To get to know them, to grow with them, to truly invest in what became of our fateful five. I smiled to myself as I read how Fu described camp and the different groups who attended because I could genuinely picture it all, even though I had never attended a proper summer camp.
That being said, I did find that a few things did not flow properly for me while reading and left me with a constant feeling that I had missed something entirely. The pacing was sporadic and jumped between extremely different thoughts within the span of a page which was jarring. This very well could be a style of writing that works for some people but it was too much in the vein of ‘stream of consciousness’ for me to fully invest in what was happening as it kept taking me out of the story.
The premise behind the story is extremely intriguing and taking on 5 different perspectives/points of view is a large undertaking in this type of book. Still, this is the kind of story that I can see a group of young girls reading and looking for parts of themselves in each of the characters.

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Now I know that a lot of people would consider this a love story, but I don’t necessarily agree 100%. I feel like this is just as much a story about learning to not be complacent living the life that you have been given and to always strive to live your life to the fullest… to not waste it.
Lou is forced to take this job out of necessity. A job in a field of which she knows next to nothing about and working for a miserable man who does not let a day go by without it being known, so that she can help her family pay the bills and get through another day. She breaks down, resolves many times over to quit but still pushes through because she has to – fair and simple.
Will does not want to make life easy. Everyone is moving on with their lives for better or for worse and he is stuck. Stuck knowing that this is all he will have now. Someone always around to feed him, clean him, give him medicine and ultimately sit around every day in pain, forced to watch able-bodied people waste their lives. And Lou is one of them.
Lou spends their days together trying to be optimistic for Will and works on showing him how good life can be and give him a different perspective… or could it be Lou being shown a new perspective?

The Invisible Library by Genevieve Cogman

I just want to start off by asking what we all want to know... how do I get a job as a Librarian??
The opening scene alone was enough to pull me in and feel like I was working right alongside Irene.
For the most part I found myself very entertained by the story but there were a couple of things that prevented me from giving it a higher rating.
The main factor that kept this a 3-star is that I did not devour this book. I enjoyed it enough but was ok with taking my time with it and setting it aside to come back to on another day. I had fully intended on reading this in one sitting but it ended up taking me a couple of sittings. I loved the world building (or should I say... WORLDS building *wink* see what I did there?) and genuinely want to see more of the Library and the worlds that they can travel to. The Language aspect of the story was very intiguing as well considering it was such a simple thing but could be done very wrong if you did not get it exactly right.
Another thing I want to mention without being too spoilery is that if you are looking for any sort of romantic storyline... it ain't happening here. In fact, it was very much brought up and immediately squashed in a way that seemed very out if place and unnatural and took me out of the story a bit.
All in all I will continue on with this series but I do have quite a few books that I want to get to before that time comes.

I really enjoyed this book. The writing was simple but fast paced and the world was flushed out really well.
There were a few twists and turns that I could see coming but one or two of them were a pleasant surprise.
In a few instances, I couldn't quite reach the connection between certain things even though I wanted to so I decided to just accept what I was being told so that I could continue on to the greater part of the story because that is where my true interest was.
I started this book expecting one thing and ended up with something completely different and I am extremely excited to continue Jules' journey because it is VERY interesting.
I will say, if you find it a slow read at any point, hold fast and just you wait for those last few chapters and prepare yourself for what is yet to come.
Can't wait for book 2!
