Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
4.0
Now I know that a lot of people would consider this a love story, but I don’t necessarily agree 100%. I feel like this is just as much a story about learning to not be complacent living the life that you have been given and to always strive to live your life to the fullest… to not waste it.
Lou is forced to take this job out of necessity. A job in a field of which she knows next to nothing about and working for a miserable man who does not let a day go by without it being known, so that she can help her family pay the bills and get through another day. She breaks down, resolves many times over to quit but still pushes through because she has to – fair and simple.
Will does not want to make life easy. Everyone is moving on with their lives for better or for worse and he is stuck. Stuck knowing that this is all he will have now. Someone always around to feed him, clean him, give him medicine and ultimately sit around every day in pain, forced to watch able-bodied people waste their lives. And Lou is one of them.
Lou spends their days together trying to be optimistic for Will and works on showing him how good life can be and give him a different perspective… or could it be Lou being shown a new perspective?
