Kim Reaper Vol. 1: Grim Beginnings by Sarah Graley
4.0
The story was nice, 5.5 out of 10. The art work was very pleasing to the eye and I really liked the story and how diverse the characters were. I read a comic a while ago, also with two queer main characters, but there it felt like the author was using (for lack of a better term) their 'queerness' to try and push the story forward, rather than it carrying its own weight. This wasn't the case here, I thought the story for the most part was balanced and natural. What I didn't like however was how fast things were moving between Kim Reaper and Becka. Kim at one moment says 'I care about you and want to keep you safe.' When scroll back a day ago she didn't even know who Becka was. It felt like it took maybe 30 minutes to fall in love and another 30 to have this huge fall out between them. It really put me off at first, but after some time I got over it, and could enjoy the rest of the story.
Also, The Board of Grim Reapers was pretty cool! :)
A sincere thank you to NetGalley and Oni Press for the comic!

I listened to the audiobook last week and man! This book still hits me in the feels SO HARD, after all these years! I remember sitting in my room, going through a really rough time, when I was switching schools and just being able to forget about all of my problems and getting sucked into this story. I stayed up all night reading this in one sitting. I listened to the 10 year anniversary edition and the voice actress was so good, I can't tell you how many times I had to cry throughout. The book is just so well written, I just couldn't stop feeling the pain of all the characters! At the time I reached Rue's death I was a mess, it was just so sad. I'm not one to give 5 out of 5 starts easily, but this book deserves more than that.
Dead Weight: Murder at Camp Bloom by Terry Blas

Yaas! This was exactly what I needed after a series of mediocre reads! I loved everything about this comic! The style, the dialog. I love murder mysteries and I was surprised to find out who actually killed Cory. The ironic humor was really nice and I had a right chuckle when the Lockwood girl turned out to be the heiress of Chubby Candy Inc. I definitely had a great time reading this :)

I remember reading this and not understanding any of it. I had never read anything like this before and to me it was absurd.

Seeing how most of my friends have 5-starred this book, I feel like what follows is going to be an unpopular opinion: I did not really like the book. I was quite frankly a bit disappointed, because the premise sounded so good! This was supposed to be a textbook on fantastic beasts, therefore I was surprised be the lack of illustrations and description at times. I have a really hard time visualising things in my mind, so it felt more like a task to finish the book than something for leisure. I ended up reading along with the audio book, which was read by Eddie Redmayne, which made it more enjoyable. I feel it works way better in the audio format (the use of sound effects was also very nice).
I bought the illustrated edition two days ago, so I can't wait to see how I will feel about that one.

Strange Fruit, Volume II: More Uncelebrated Narratives from Black History by Joel Christian Gill

I really enjoyed this comic. As an European African it was very interesting for me to read about the history of African Americans. The stories were all very interesting, and I had a very fun time reading this to my mom tonight (she enjoyed it as well!). Despite the intended audience being 12-18, I found the style very accessible to older people. Furthermore, the art was aesthetically pleasing and very clean. Would definitely recommend this for a quick afternoon/evening read :).

Ice Cream Man Volume 2: Strange Neapolitan by W. Maxwell Prince
4.0
I finished Ice Cream Man Volume 1 yesterday and it was sooo good! So without a doubt I went ahead and bought all the four issues in this coming volume, and I was not disappointed. This comic reminds me of American Horror Story, every single issue it manages to reinvent itself and it’s very refreshing. I love how disconnected the stories are from one another, yet there still being a story that gets unfolded (the Ice Cream man and the man in black). My favourite one was the neapolitan episode, where for each flavour, there was a different path the main character took. It was super clever and a nice depiction of the butterfly effect. Throughout the comic there are a lot of absurd things that take please, but in a weird way I felt that it provided comic relief, like when one woman is on the phone and her I gets poked out by a bird and she’s like ‘I’m going to have to call you back Bob’ lmao. Would definitely recommend!!!
Batman Vol. 8: Cold Days by Tom King

This comic was alright! It is the first Batman comic I have ever read and I did enjoy it for the most part. The artwork was very nice, although i didn't really enjoy the one from issue #54. I'm giving this three stars because despite me enjoying the comic, it started off quite slow and I didn't feel like there was all that much to the plot line. I like it when comics have the abilities to make me feel something, anything, but this was not the case here. Perhaps because Batman is such an emotionally detached person, it was hard for me to get attached to this comic. Either way, it was just an alright comic.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Vol. 1: The Crucible by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
3.0
I grew up loving Sabrina the Teenage Witch and when I heard about this horror version I wanted to read it right away! I might have had high expectations though, because after finishing the comic, I was slightly disappointed. The art wasn’t my cup of tea, the story line was okay, nothing too overwhelmingly interesting. I think this was mainly due to Lady Satan who I did not like. I understand that having your heart broken my the man you love can be devastating, but getting ripped to pieces and eaten alive by lions? Kinda overkill in my opinion.
My favourite character ended up being Salem, Sabrina’s familiar. Mainly because I didn’t really like most characters. Sabrina’s life seems the revolve around Harvey and that kind of irritated me a bit. The aunts who supposedly raised Sabrina show the bare minimum of affection to her. The dynamics of most relationships either didn’t work for me or felt toxic.
I liked the appearance on the Riverdale characters for comic relieve and the plot twist at the end had me shook (although I didn’t understand the actions of Harvey’s mother at the end, that was just nonsensical).
I’m giving three stars though because I do feel that there is potential in this comic. I believe that with some tweaks to some characters and the plot, this could have been a lot better.
