Onibi is a nice blend of travelogue and the mystery of the Japanese ghosts known as youkai. Written and draw by Atelier Sento, a creative team duo of Cecile Brun and Olivier Pichard, Onibi described their trip to Niigata. I think the trip itself was happen but they decide to mix it with youkai hunting, adding some mystic feeling on it. For me, the illustration is pretty nice but the story seems to lacking. It feel jumbled since the story told in some kind of anthology or short stories. However, you will wondering if Brun and Pichard really encounter youkai in their Niigata trip or they just imagine them at all. For a graphic novel with yokai ghost hunter in the title, sadly the type of yokai is not that plenty.

Still a pretty good graphic novel that combine a travelogue with a horror theme that suitable for people that easily scared by ghosts (aka, me, lel) and also perfect for a short and quick read. I just wish the story told more comprehensively and feature more yokai.

Quiet in Her Bones is the first time I read book by Nalini Singh that written from 1st PoV and male MC at that. Definitely out of her usual books since I'm a fans of her Guild Hunter series, follow Psy-Changeling series (need to do a complete reread since I stop in Kaleb's book) and try to read her Rockstar series but found it is not to my liking. Quiet in Her Bones also her first thriller book that I try to read.

Honestly, from the vibes and story tones alone, Quiet is pretty much like Guild Hunter. Dysfunctional family and gritty environment that surrounded by a mystery. In contrast, if Guild Hunter is filled with fantasy settings, Quiet happen in your usual urban area with rich people that hide their scandals and malicious intents. Our narrator, Aarav Rai is an example of unreliable story teller, a self diagnosed sociopath that slowly succumb to uncertainty and become unhinged days by days while try to solve the mystery behind his mother's disappearance. Who's the killer of Nina Rai? Is it her husband, Ishaan Rai, a respectable CEO that she had toxic relationship with? One of their rich neighbor? A secretary that Ishaan banged at that time when Nina disappear and want to get Nina out from the house to become the next Mrs Rai? A close friend of Nina that decide to betray her? Or maybe, Aarav himself? Aarav, a devoted son with love and hate relationship for a mother that so clear live to her own way but become bitter through her marriage. Aarav, a multi-sensational thriller writer with a book that turned into movie, a book about a mother killed. Aarav, a man that found his brain slowly succumb to madness unknown, unhinged, filled with rage and uncertainty of his memories when his mother flee from their home 10 years ago because his brain decided to mess with him.

The start of this book is pretty slow and the introduction of Aarav neighbor in the rich community, the Cul-de-Sac, can be pretty confusing. I feel difficult to memorize who is who, since Aarav know them all and begin to suspect is one of them a culprit responsible for his mother's death. The ensemble cast remind me of Agatha Christie's mysteries that also have big cast in which if you don't focused enough, you will get lost. The things is, I can't help to compare Quiet's big casts to another Nalini's series. I can remember all of the member of Cadre of Ten and their territories, maybe because I'm curious about them and want to know more. But, in case of Aarav's neighbor, doctors or his ex-gf, I just got lost. I don't feel these want to connect with them. Maybe, this is deliberate, since I can feel Aarav's aloofness and his unhinged characterization so I don't feel this closeness to other characters. Sometimes I feel like the characters introduction in the start of the book will help me to memorize the characters.

The mystery while solid, its conclusion in the end feel pretty easy although still enjoyable to read. I appreciate Nalini Singh to throw some red herring in order to make the mystery not that easy to predict. All Aarav's neighbors hide their scandals closed to themselves, only to be peeled layer by layer later, following the story. Aarav himself is not that likable but I can understand him. I mean, he's not that bad and I still enjoy his voice. Some of the revelation regarding about his relationship with his mother, his father, and his ex-GF is pretty shocking and I think it's work because of the 1st PoV and the fact that Aarav can't be trusted that much. There's a tongue-in-cheek part about Aarav burn bad review about his book, rather than he confront the reviewer itself. I just chuckling and wondering if Nalini also do it herself? While the story feel unsettling and chilling, I like that Nalini still try to write Aarav as a big brother figure to his step-sister, Pari and also have a good relationship with his step-mother, Shanti. If you search for romance, I'm afraid, there's none.

Quiet in Her Bones is Nalini's first thriller (and there's no romance too!) that I had read and I will check out her other thriller as well. Although, this book have so many trigger warning (like toxic relationship and domestic abuses), so you might want to read this one with cautions.

 Ternyata...BAGUS JUGA WOY!

Zach bener - bener taking things for the granted!

Witchy, cozy, slightly steamy, exactly what I expect from paranormal romance book. The Ex Hex is about Vivienne Jones, or Vivi, and her-ex, Rhys Penhallow and the curse (or hex) that going awry. The curse itself stems from Vivi's heartbreak when she was 19 and Rhys left her. At first, it's just for shit and giggles but suddenly become a big catastrophe (or near world ending, whichever you prefer) when the curse become real. The cat start talking, the ghost suddenly appearing, the spell going awry and Vivi found that Graves Glen history might be not what it seems to be.

The Ex-Hex have some of my favorite catnip, the one that got away and second chance. The main characters are pretty much charming, with Vivi try to deny her attraction to Rhys (not gonna work, we all know it) and Rhys that still can't get over Vivi even after 9 years. I did enjoy their banter, although the star of this book happen to be the side characters, Vivi's cousin Gwynnevere. Gwynn's dialogue always crack me up and I liked that she always supportive to Vivi together with her mother, Elaine. Sisterhood or witch coven for the win! The Penhallows brothers seems interesting too, with the oldest Wells is grumpy all the time and the middle brother, Bowen is eccentric as hell. Rhys seems like the charming ones here.

The story is pretty much light and entertaining, perfect for a light and one-sitting read. The romance is pretty well written and I liked that it's low of angst. Both Vivi and Rhys were adult although sometimes they act too horny, but hey, that what 9 years separation did to you. But, I liked with what Sterling write for them, no drama, no big misunderstanding that need groveling scene (that somehow the way its written is mostly meh and not enough), the love declaration is pretty on point and the conclusion for how Vivi and Rhys manage their relationship despite their big difference (Vivi is already rooted in Graves Glen, Rhys is as free as they come) was satisfying. The sex scenes were steamy and sometimes have its humorous moment as well without too much cringe (at least, for my taste.)

I recommend The Ex-Hex if you want to read a witchy but cozy paranormal romance book and the Halloween setting is pretty much fit. The next book is about Gwynn with one of Penhallow brother, Llewellyn or Wells. In this book Gwynn's ex is a woman so, maybe she's a bi? Anyway, Gwynn is my favorite characters with her witty and sarcastic remarks and pretty much sunshine, while Wells's personality is rivaling the Grinch itself, so...yeah, The Kissing Curse is pretty much grumpy x sunshine, lel.

Lha terus Milky kemana? Kalau mau tahu nasib Milky ya kudu baca buku pertama hehehe.

I admit, I'm just not into the right mood when reading this one while at first I'm intrigued by the catchy title and the novel category that is romantic killer comedy. The last part kinda didn't meet my expectation since the comedy part might be into dark comedy but with a light tone. I also feel that Juniper Bean Resorts to Murder is an awkward mix of mystery/crime genre and romance. What's the focus actually? The mystery? The romance? Or...the family drama?

For me, I prefer the mystery part rather than the romance. I don't know, the romance is just slightlyyyy okay. I did like Juniper and Aiden's bantering also the fact that Aiden is a demisexual, just like me. It's just...something feels off? Mitchell write in first PoV, switching back and forth between Juniper and Aiden but still manage to make the character's voice different, a plus point. I also think the author try to incorporated sunshine gf x grumpy bf. However, I find Aiden is too grumpy for my liking and it didn't help to read from his voice that he try to avoid Juniper at any cost at first but still agree to be Juniper's roommate? The roommate thingie also pretty mid, imho. This is the case when I can't explain why I just don't feel connected with the romance despite I like the character's witty bantering, lol. Also, Aiden way too much smirking for my liking :P.

Anyway, I do like the mystery, although the closure is not what I expect. I'm glad it didn't feel anticlimatic and I'm glad that both Juniper and Aiden were people that not act so recklessly while try to cornering the culprit. The mystery was solid and it's not just about the dead body, but concerning Juniper's past too, in fact about her biologic father. Reading Juniper's pasts were hard and read what happen to her late mother also pretty difficult that I'm appreciate Mitchell give a warning in the first page. That's why I didn't categorized this one into cozy mystery because the problems is far from cozy. There's some scene and dialogue that suddenly turn philosophical that make me go "huh?", so maybe that's one of the factor that lessen my reading enjoyment.

Juniper Bean Resorts to Murder is part murder part mystery with very slow burn romance. If you like your mystery with romance, you can try this one. Also, if you like your romance didn't have any hanky panky or sexy time in the bedroom, you also might try this one. The mystery and romance somehow balance, although I still prefer this book is more to mystery with just a little bit sprinkle of romance. But, well..that's only me.

At least the cover was pretty.

William dan Professor Cope berhasil menemukan fosil gigi seekor dino yang sangat besar, hence the title of the book, Gigi Naga.

It's pained me to say that I didn't enjoy this like I want to. Hello, I am a Witch and My Crush Wants Me to Make a Love Potion is the third light novel published by Cross Infinite World that I had read after Beast Blood vol 1 and 2. The title, while quite handful, is what catch my interest. The synopsis and premise are interesting. However, my problems is with the writing itself and the translation. I can't read in Japanese, so I can only turn to its translation whether in English or in my native, Indonesian.

Honestly to said the problem lay in translation is not that true since I had read Charis Messier's translation in Beast Blood and I remember I don't have the problem while reading the translation version. But, the writing in the Witch and Love Potion (I shorten it to make it easy to write) is driving me bonkers. I think Messier try to translate it too literally so that's why the writing feel juvenile. So many repetition. Like Rose, the main heroine, is a witch. Witch can't lie, witch is different, witch is abcdefu I want to throw my e-reader and beg it to stop with the repetition. Some of inner dialogue also not written in italic or in punctuation mark, make it hard to distinguished from actual dialogue. The dialogue itself kinda feel like I read a manga, so it's feel weird to read it in the form of light novel.

The story itself actually is not that bad per se. Rose is your typical shy and anti-social heroine that, surprise surprise, didn't care that much about herself but I kinda related with her. Harij is okay, he can be too overbearing and demanding, but he's care for Rose with his own way. I like the Princess, Billaura, although her marriage to a king who 40-years older than her and she want to love him as a wife is an..ewww. But, since this is happen in medieval setting and political marriage between man so old and an underage girl were quite common back then, so I just kind of let it go since the love life of Billaura is not the main focus. The romance is very, very much slooooow burn until the end. Rose keep her one sided love for 4 years and Harij can be too oblivious at first but all will end well.

Honestly, Witch and Love Potion is perfect for a cozy fantasy romance reading with a low stake, but some meaningful content. Such as, people always fear what they don't understand so they were antagonize Rose at first but when they know she is a good witch, their attitude changed. It's just the writing that drive me nuts, in which lessen my enjoyment of reading. One star for an interesting premise and one star more for Vient's illustration that is very beautiful.
