Maggie's Going Nowhere by Rose Hartley
5.0
This read is my favourite book of 2020 thus far! It made me laugh out loud multiple times and I’ve recommended to so many people already! It’s set in Melbourne, so locals will appreciate the references to their city and Aussie readers can enjoy the colloquial banter between the characters. Our main girl Maggie was hilarious and her character development/ redemption was fantastic. Her best mate Jen was a true gem and I really felt for her throughout the story. I liked Maggies love interest, Rueben, who didn’t take Maggie’s nonsense, but also supported the heck out of her. This book is crude in parts but I wouldn’t have had in any other way, Rose Hartley kept Maggie real and I particularly loved how she summarised half of the Australian male population up in one paragraph towards the end

This was a really nice, easy read. I liked the characters and really enjoyed the ending.

Was this a guilty pleasure read?! Hell yes! Did I love it? Omg I died, loved it so much. Will I continue to read all 19 books? Count me in! One of my beautiful booksta friends recommended this fantastic paranormal/ urban fantasy romance book and I’m hooked. Not something I would normally read but yesss give me more!
Where Fortune Lies by Mary-Anne O'Connor

The start of the book broke my heart, actually come to think of it quite a few parts of the book did. I felt for all of our main characters in uprooting their lives in late 19th century to move to Australia. I was really taken by surprise how I would feel for our main characters, Will, Mari, Anne, Alice and Charlie. I was seriously so invested in their stories, I laughed and cried at various points in the book. Talk of brumbies got me thinking of a show I used to watch as a child and made me feel very nostalgic while reading. I’m finding at the moment that I love books that are set in Australia and even better that this is set in 19th century Australia ( love me some history)! Overall a beautiful story about Australian settlers and their journey to find their home.
Queen of Air and Darkness by Cassandra Clare

Average. If it didn’t have Christina, Kieran and Mark I probably wouldn’t have kept up with my reread. The ending sucks and makes no sense to me ( like it does but also doesn’t!)
Chosen Ones by Veronica Roth

I liked the writing style but it was slow and didn’t really interest me until all the action started in the last few chapters. I discussed the ending with @ and we both had similar thoughts. The ending didn’t quite make sense to me, I don’t really know how to feel about it? I didn’t ship anyone, Sloane as our heroine was underwhelming and a few things were just too obvious for me which I didn’t like. I went onto Goodreads to do the usual read and rating and saw it had a 1 next to it... meaning there is a sequel?! In all honesty I don’t quite see how that’s even possible having read the book. This book seemed like a sequel because it was set 10 years after the good guys destroy the bad guy so if anything give us a prequel please. It’s not something I would recommend and that does make me sad as I do love Veronica Roth.

This beautiful book is a new favourite of mine, I absolutely adored everything this book had to offer! If you haven’t read it you need to add it to your TBR immediately
The Switch by Beth O'Leary

This was such a refreshing read, I started this book two weeks ago and it was just what I needed to read given the current world climate. It allowed me to have some downtime with a light and easy read (and lots of marshmallows) . I loved this life swap story that we got to follow, both Eileens’ were fantastic characters and the writing allowed the readers to really connect with them both. I also found myself getting really invested in our side characters too, honestly this would make a GREAT movie…someone please get on this! I loved the setting of both books, busy London and the quaint English countryside, O’Leary really painted both settings perfectly that I could really picture where the characters were at all times. If you loved the Flatshare or are just after a nice book that is fluffy, fun and well written then go and pick this book up as you are in for a treat!
