I was very pleasantly surprised by this. Read it quite literally just for the aquatics references and loved it. Became interested in it before much information was released, purely for the aquatic references, so was kind of daft and expecting it to be YA, but twas okay. Overall, I liked the characters. Sure, I see the vision of Hazelwood's MCs being a bit repetitive but as my second book by her, it wasn't too bad. However, there was def one particular character that pissed me off to no end. Finally, I don't love Hazelwood's very vague epilogues (based on the two books of hers I've read) in which big events are mentioned but don't happen within the book. I get why but I would still like to experience moments together with the book's characters.

Thematically interesting and unique, but was simply too disturbing and weird. I also disliked having the story be told from perspectives other than that of Yeong-hye, and while I understand the choice, having to read from the perspective of creepy men was simply not enjoyable and worsened my overall experience.

I really loved this book and its writing. Slightly creepier and sadder than I usually go for but nonetheless a gorgeous and moving work.

Var overraskende god selvom den startede lidt langsom og forvirrende.

Was very slow for a large portion of the book, but the interesting action and plot progression throughout warrants a 4/5

Slight spoilers? Vague mention of a character dynamic but no specifics.
The writing is simple and easy to read and understand. It’s at a fairly low reading level, meaning that some lines are a bit awkward to read or feel unnecessarily “explainy” but the story as a whole is captivating. I would have loved a longer story, to really delve into the dynamics and world. I for one LOVE descriptions and cannot get enough of them, but I felt like there wasn’t that much of it in this book. However, S.M Wilson creates a dynamic and fascinating Piloria and explores Storm’s various relationships/dynamics with different characters in a fun way. There are also some cute moments with Storm and Lincoln, as well as the fighting between Lincoln and Reban that made me go “eeeek” which I loved. All in all, great comfort book (and series as a whole), big fan.

firstly, i would like to clarify that i am rereading this series from an older perspective than the books are aimed at. this series has always been and always will be my favourite book series, despite my qualms with it.
the book is fast-paced and short, making it easy to read, and appealing to many readers, especially 10 year old me. however, i would say that this book (and the entire series) would be better suited to a longer format, say 600-1000 pages per book. this way, we would be able to gain more background knowledge about earthasia and delve into the more “sensitive” topics mentioned throughout. additionally, this would mean better character building and conversations, rather than skipping over planning and such.
there is not as much description throughout the book as i would have liked, and parts of it feels repetitive. for instance, storm’s repeating of “the flashes of red and orange.”
nonetheless, i find the world to be captivating, and the level of detail good for an imaginative mind.
however, lincoln is, quite frankly, a pain in the ass. all of his admiring of storm is quite annoying and the motherfucker ends up screwing over everyone!! dickhead.
anyways, i also felt like some of the lines weren’t really necessary… like a character would do something and then tell you WHY they did that thing, when it usually was pretty obvious why they did something.
however, the series always makes me yearn for more, and it fuels my daydreams SO GOOD.
The end.
