Absolutely loved it! Definitely a great start and looking forward to the rest of the series!

Absolutely loved this. The first half was a tad dry but once it hit the climax, it was absolutely fantastic! Loved the fear Lyla had and the fact that she wasn't always brave. She learned how to be brave when she had to be.

This book was eh. Reading the dust jacket got me really excited and I absolutely adored Thalia as a character, though I feel she could have been much more consistent with her position on most things. Mostly though, that's how I felt with the whole book. Zero consistency. It seemed like it skipped around going from ups and downs, to fights and compromises too quickly. There wasn't time to process the negatives before the positives came barreling back into it. All the technological advances in addition to the plot of "no need for food" really was just more confusing for the reader who had to understand what was happening. More than anything, I was actually really hoping for this book to be a female character who ditched her man. They really weren't an agreeable couple....whatever. Overall wasn't my favorite book. Definitely disappointed.
Generation Dead by Daniel Waters

I actually really enjoyed this book. The few things that bothered me were the multiple names for the characters. They would be used in Chapter 4 and referred to as something different until Chapter 12 when the nickname was brought up again. The plot was amazing though and I really enjoyed it much more than I expected I would. Definitely recommend!
Insurgent by Veronica Roth
5.0
Insurgent was an absolutely incredible second book in a series. On most occasions, the middle book in a trilogy is more to get you from beginning to end - not much happens. However in Insurgent so much happens, its as though the story never paused. You can feel Tris' growth in the novel from beginning to end - her learning to cope with death and how she wants to live the rest of her life without these people. She becomes stronger because of it and learns more about herself than she knew before. Very excited to begin Allegiant tomorrow and finish the series up!
Tandem by Anna Jarzab
4.0
First of all, the plot in Tandem is incredibly unique. The whole theory of parallel universes is not something that has really been explored in young adult literature. The beginning of the book was a bit confusing for me, and it wasn't until about 2/3 of the way through that I realized that each chapter (or non chapter title depending on the character) was a different perspective from someone else. Once I understood how it was written and understood what the Tandem was and who the characters were, I flew through this novel. I definitely have to say I wish there was a bit more character development and a little less description on things that didn't seem to have as much importance however I loved Thomas' character and cannot WAIT for Tether to come out this fall!
The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I had a very hard time deciding how much I liked this book. I love the concept, and I understand that the book is supposed to leave you still asking questions and trying to understand. But overall the characters had my heart from the very beginning. I absolutely love who they are and what they represent, what they believe in. Their personalities are so well defined and I adore Thomas. I'll most likely continue reading the series to find out what happens next. Definitely have questions that I NEED answered!
The Way We Bared Our Souls by Willa Strayhorn
5.0
This was a beautifully written. I loved the ideas behind it and so much of it was based on spirituality and the soul while still tying it to modern lives. It was refreshing. And although I didn't like the first chapter and thought it was completely unnecessary, I understood why she included it and the connection later on in the book. I absolutely adored all of the main characters and thought they were relatable on different levels. The background characters (like Lo's friends?) Eh, didn't care much for their personalities but they were tolerable. I absolutely did fall in love with Lo, Kit, Kaya, Thomas and Ellen however and loved all the storyline involving history and the background of Santa Fe and the people who lived there. So glad I picked this up and gave it a try. Definitely recommend!
Yours Truly by Annabel Pitcher

Honestly, I just finished the book and I tried to do something different by reviewing it while reading it. If I read something I did, or didn't like, I wrote about it. In the end, I deleted it - all of it. Because yes, the beginning was slow. Yes, there were parts that I felt didn't make sense or the character did something that seemed completely out of character. But toward the end, I couldn't put it down. I finished the book in its entirety and I fell in love with it the way I always hope to fall in love with books. The ending was flawless and Pitcher's writing was beautiful. So many one-liner sentences that I would highlight in a second if I could ever convince myself to write inside one of my books.
I thought the ending of this was absolutely phenomenal and I 100% believe it deserves 5 stars. So so fantastic. A+.
