Fighting Monsters Part 2 by Sam Hall

As I said in my review of part one, this is not really my kind of book so I’m not going to seep into this review. Take it with a grain of salt if this is up your alley!

All things considered, I enjoyed the plot of this book. I like the idea of Rosanna’s Coven following her bloodline after her death, and I wish that we had more of that. Honestly, the only real parts that the monsters had in these books was to bone her and a couple of magic lessons. Considering these books are supposed to be about the monsters, there was a huge focus on Maddox and the Green Man.

Now, that being said. Maddox. Holy man Maddox. He had me. My heart literally broke. The plot surrounding Morgan and her Uncle and their fight over the estate was well done. The twist at the end of the book was not something that I was expecting and I really enjoyed it.

At the end of the day, I wish that there was a bit more focus on the magic in these books, and dare I say, the monsters minus the smut.

This isn’t my kind of book, so I’m not going to go too deep into this, mostly because I’m not even sure how this ended up on my tbr.

It wasn’t badly written, all things considered I quite enjoyed the plot of the book (what little plot there actually was).

I really liked the aspect of Rosanna’s Coven following her bloodline following her death, and I am all the way committed to finding out more about the magic and Morgan and Rosanna.

I will say, the characters are a bit over the top - Kylie most of all, I really disliked her character.

I tried. I tried so hard, and I really never could get into this book.

It was really well written, and I was really interested in the characters, but I could not get into the spiders or the silk. I kept waiting for this big plot twist, or something big to happen, but really, it never did. It was a very slow paced book and although there were discoveries along the way, none of them really affected me emotionally other than a little bit of hope for Henry at the beginning.

By the end, I really disliked every character in this book. Whether or not that was intentionally designed by the author, I’ll never know.

This book… This series is trying to do too much and I can’t anymore. I struggled taking it seriously from book one, but finishing book 5 we are pushing past a bit much deep into the waters of ridiculous.

Max was a witch, then a demon princess, then the LAST elemental fae, but wait! No she's not! She's a demigod!  Now we're sitting here and she’s not just the daughter of a god, but the Daughter of Chronos.

It's too much. This is not even the same story we started with in book 1,  I can honestly say I’m not a fan of where we have ended up.

I’m finding this series to be quite repetitive, and I’m starting to get annoyed with Max.

She never learns. She keeps doing stupid shit over and over again without asking anyone for help or listening to anyone else’s ideas or advice. She’s getting on my nerves. This woman is 400 years old, not bloody 14. Her whole cast and crew of characters aren’t a whole lot better either, and don’t even get me started on the fates. My god.

This book felt very similar to book 2, so I’m not going to spend a whole bunch of time on the review here…

I dunno. I don't really love the characters. As a whole, everyone works well, and I like the found family feeling we have going on. But, when you start to actually look at the characters or the plot there's just so many holes.

It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s cutesy. It’s pretty standard for a 6 book kindle unlimited series… But my love is diminishing book by book as we seem to go in circles.

There are a lot of things that just kind of popped up in this story, and if you ignore them all and continue on as normal, the book is pretty good. But, I guess it just depends on how much you can pretend like the little inconsistencies just aren't there.

It’s good for me that these books are short and kinda fluffy, they don’t really require a lot of thought process to get through them, so for me, this was pretty easy. Oh, Max has a sister? Huh. That’s nice. Oh, after two books were just going to ditch Ian as a love interest and pretend he never existed? Sure thing.

One thing I can't ignore. Are Max’s parents evil or not? Do we like them, or don’t we? This wishy washy crap drives me crazy and I do feel like the author just couldn’t make up her mind about a few things and kept bouncing from one to the other. Are we best friends with Striker, or do we hate him? Is the author leaving the door open just in case she needs to use it in the future? Because, I don't like it.

As I said in my review of book one, I also hate that Max acts like she's in her early 20’s when she's literally hundreds of years old. Does a person not learn from all the shit they go through in their lives? And also, after dying so many times, why has she not taught herself self defense yet?

 There are so many holes.

But again. It's quick, it's easy, it's cutesy.

I like the idea of this book. The fmc was way over the top and super dramatic and it hindered me from really loving her. The plot was muddled and confusing, and there was a lot of history that was implied at, but that we were never really given. (ETA: apparently this is a spin off from another series that had all of that history I was looking for).

I was really intrigued by the whole - can’t die witch thing, and on that front, I wasn't really let down. I enjoyed the story of Max and her best friend trying to save a woman from a demon. I liked them coming into themselves but considering they have both lived for over 400 years, it really didn’t fit their whole coming of age/power storyline.

This really felt like two different stories mashed into one and it was a bit convoluted at times, but it was still a quick, easy and decent read.

This book was freaking heart breaking. From start to finish. Between the decline in Heidrek’s mental stability, Blomma’s slow loss of her brother and Hervor and Hofund watching their son turn into everything they tried to avoid. It was brutal. My heart was torn to shreds over and over in this one and I absolutely bawled when it ended.

I did find that this one dragged a bit much in the middle for me. There was so much focus on Heidrek, and I found quite a bit of it to be repetitive and I kept finding myself wishing the series would get a move on.

Emotionally this book was a 5 star book.
But it didn’t quite hit like all the others, and I really didn’t love it as much overall, even though I am completely head over heels for the series.

I’m so excited to move on to the next series, and read about Blomma’s daughter.
