Survive the Night by Danielle Vega
4.0
I feel really out of place here. I really enjoyed this book and I'm having a hard time figuring out why so many people seemed to hate it. I thought the writing was adept and the plot was nicely paced, and the main character, Casey, was actually a breath of fresh air compared to 90% of other main characters I've had to go through; she never made me roll my eyes or cringe, although there were a couple times I wanted to crawl into the pages and tell her to think about and process things, but we all get caught up in our own minds sometimes, don't we?
Now the antagonist sure is a bit hard to put together - fairly difficult, but I came here for a fast-paced horror novel that would kick off my Spooky Reads season, and to be honest I wasn't expecting that at all. There are a few things that don't add up about it, but I was a little more caught up with the main characters and their fates, and honestly if anyone was in their position, I think they'd be, too.
I had put off reading this book for so long because of all the negativity towards it, but I kept coming back to it because the premise just seemed so interesting; I eventually read the little preview available here on Goodreads and decided I had to read the whole thing, simply because I wanted to, and I wasn't going to let anyone else's opinions get in my way. But I did keep them in my mind, which is why I went into this with absolutely no expectations, and came out feeling extremely satisfied.

Champion: The Graphic Novel by Marie Lu, Leigh Dragoon

What can I say? I loved this book just as much as the previous two. I loved this series just as much as the first two times I read it as an ordinary novel, actually a little more this time around. There, a simplified version of my reviews for the first two books in the Legend: The Graphic Novel series.

This series is helping me through a really stressful time. Not because it's spiritually helpful or whatever, just because it's really good.

This is one of the two series I've ever reread (the other on was The Hunger Games), so when I saw the graphic novel versions at my local library I grabbed them like they held the secrets of the universe. I loved the graphic novel so much more than the actual novel, I just love the story. It has the fairly cliche plot of the elitist pairing up with the rebel (going from enemies to allies) who not only fight government corruption but a plague as well (and yes, they do kiss), but the characters are so different, smart and well written. They don't make irrational decisions that most characters in 90% of YA novels make, and the plot has enough unique little surprises and plot twists that I can't help worshiping this series as if it were a religious text.

This was such a lovely duology! I'm so sad to once again find myself at the end of the story of the Rampion Crew, even if the main villain in this one was hard for me to take seriously.

I really loved how this universe continued on, it felt just like the previous four books, only illustrated. However, the stakes didn't feel as high; there wasn't too much excitement or suspense, but I feel like that has to do with this book/series being able to stand on it's own, it's not extremely necessary to read the Lunar Chronicles to understand what's happening here. Nevertheless it was still wonderful to revisit a world (and it's moon) and crew I fell in love with.
Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch
5.0
I never really read romance because I'm afraid of reading a story entirely predictable, cliche and/ or uninteresting, no matter the rating. But after finishing Love and Gelato I'm afraid I've found hope in YA Romance. This book was exactly what I needed, it was wonderful and exciting and I hope to the stars it won't be brutally disfigured in a movie adaptation (because let's be honest with the way the movie industry's going a movie adaptation is inevitable). Now I know Jenna Welch's only other book Love and Luck hasn't received as much praise as this one but I'll be on the look out for it anyways for the chance to find a book like Love and Gelato.

I tried reading the original novel a couple years ago and was struggling through it because I was having a really hard time picturing and imagining things, so this time around I figured I should read the graphic novel first, and I enjoyed the story so much more. Also, the last time I tried to read it I had just finished reading the Percy Jackson series and The Heroes of Olympus and was constantly comparing the Kane Chronicles to them which was an extra layer of story-ruining.
Now it's been almost year and I'm excited to dive into the Kane Chronicles once more.

This book was so fun and cute, and definitely something anyone of any age can enjoy.

I really wanted to love this book, but after three books of artwork I did not like, barely even being able to tell people apart in the third book, and big parts of the original books being left out, I've decided to give up on the rest of this series.
