Tis dragging a bit...not a lot of action going on.
The book picked up halfway through which I was glad to see. I think Armstrong does a nice job of really showing the kids dealing with their powers (well at least Derek and Chloe). In so many other books they have either had time to adjust or they adjust really quickly. Obviously, these powers aren't something you can easily adjust to and I think she does that justice.

I jumped into this book in the middle of the trilogy. I do that a lot! I still found a way to wrap my mind around this perfectly possible story. 4 teenagers escape their prison, a lab where they were genetically altered, before finding the help they need to get back to their normal lives.
Mistaken for mental health issues, Chole, was placed in the care of Lyle House. A place where kids were supposed to get help. Instead they died, if they didn’t behave. She found herself captured by the doctors who were studying her. Chole was filled with more lies and managed to break out when attempting to find the others who escaped with her from Lyle House. The one who hadn’t been caught.
Chole’s friends leave her a note only she could find, that they will come back for her. Now a group of 4 paranormal enhanced teenagers were running lose with the labs secrets. Finding some help, they’re still on the run from the people who are out to kill them.
I loved this book. It was a quick read and easy to get addicted to. I can’t wait to read the other books and get the whole story. I hope I didn’t give away too much of the book for you. But I do hope you pick it up and read the trilogy any way you choose!!!!

The books are short and I'm blazing through them, but theyre also SO slowly paced. This book was 90% of them trying to go from point a to b. Derek and Chloe going on a road trip, 2 chapters of action and BAM: book done. I'm listening to the audiobook and was shocked when the music announcing the end of the book began playing. Like the real plot had JUST started to happen. Also why are they still trying to do the love triangle? I've never read a love triangle as inconsequential to the story before. The outcome is also SO obvious. As if she's going to end up with the guy she's had 2 minutes of development with. Of course of course she's going to end up with the broody bad-boy( who's actually really sweet *gasp*). Still waiting for that glow-up to happen though.
This book was written during the supernatural twilight induced YA craze and it shows. I would bet money on that Armstrong was asked by her publisher to add a love triangle to fit the trend and that Armstrong just shrugged.

While I enjoyed the first in this series, [b:The Summoning|2800905|The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1)|Kelley Armstrong|http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51tUlMcyolL._SL75_.jpg|2451397] well enough, I remember having issues with the fact it had to spend a lot of time explaining the world of Chloe Saunders, and introducing us to the various characters...and not nearly as much time on plot as I would have liked. Luckily, with the second book in the series, Armstrong has already built things up for the readers and so this had a whole lot more plot and development and was a lot more entertaining for that.
I really was happy with the fact that Chloe is a necromancer. The urban fantasy genre is so bogged down with vampires and werewolves that it honestly gets a bit boring, but someone who can raise zombie minions and see ghosts is a lot more rare. I'm looking forward to how she'll use these powers in the next book, since in this novel she's still trying to understand what she's capable of.
I've been pretty impressed with how real the characters feel, and was happily surprised that I actually got to like Tori this time around. Armstrong does a great job of fleshing out what feels like real teenagers on the run.
This was very fast-paced, and read really quickly. It's definitely a page-turner that had me losing track of time.

I really liked this book.In the begining the plot needs to pick up steam, and the characters are a little catty. The main character, Chole, is kind of the lets be the best we can, damsel in distress, but she knows it, and some mock her for it. That gets old after a while, but it fades as the novel progresses. When Derek and Chole are on their own, this seems like the most mature point of the book. The characters are fully developed, and we can get a sense of what they think and act like more than their outer skin they show to everyone else.
I'm intrigued by the plot, and I wish to know more, but I fear the plot of genetic changes will not be fully explored or explained. It has been a while since I read the first book, so I may be lacking that information.

I was up until 4:00 a.m. reading because I just could not put this book down! This is a fantastic second installment of the Darkest Powers series. After the cliffhanger ending in the Summoning, I was worried that I wouldn't be as invested in the story by the time this book came out. I was wrong! I loved getting to know the characters better, and learning more about what the what the Edison Group has been plotting for these teen supernaturals. I am looking forward to finding out what's in store for them in part III, and I hope Chloe finally realises her feelings for Derek! This series is Twilight meets Harry Potter meets X-Men meets LonelyGirl15, and so much more!

It's been ages since I read this book. It was one of my favorites during my middle school ghost phase. I used to hate Tori but after a reread I like her much better than Chloe. I love the plot and writing style of this series but Chloe is hella annoying. She's a Whitney damsel, Tori hit the nail on the head with that quip. Other than that I enjoyed the book.

LOVED it!!! I thought that The Awakening was better than The Summoning and that's saying a lot, because I loved The Summoning. Couldn't get enough of this book, it ended too soon just because i never wanted it to end. re-read a couple of sections before moving on just because they were just that good. So glad that Derek was such big part of this book. He's such a great character. Can't wait for part three The Reckoning. I'm just sad it's going to be the last of this series. No worries though Kelley Armstrong said she might continue writing with these characters in a different series. let's hope.
