The Awakening by Kelley Armstrong

3.0

The books are short and I'm blazing through them, but theyre also SO slowly paced. This book was 90% of them trying to go from point a to b. Derek and Chloe going on a road trip, 2 chapters of action and BAM: book done. I'm listening to the audiobook and was shocked when the music announcing the end of the book began playing. Like the real plot had JUST started to happen. Also why are they still trying to do the love triangle? I've never read a love triangle as inconsequential to the story before. The outcome is also SO obvious. As if she's going to end up with the guy she's had 2 minutes of development with. Of course of course she's going to end up with the broody bad-boy( who's actually really sweet *gasp*). Still waiting for that glow-up to happen though.
This book was written during the supernatural twilight induced YA craze and it shows. I would bet money on that Armstrong was asked by her publisher to add a love triangle to fit the trend and that Armstrong just shrugged.
