I was given an AR copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The one word I would use to describe The Rumor by Lesley Kara is MORE. I wanted more of everything throughout the story. I wanted more suspense, more clues, more semi-traumatic-your-child-may-be-in-danger events that left me turning pages well into the night. Knowing that someone in the town had been a child killer made me, obviously, suspicious of everyone. I loved all the details and hints that Lesley Kara dropped about each resident of the small sea-side town through the book but I wanted more of them! This was a quick read for me and left me on the edge of my seat. I loved how the ending worked as I had thought it might be possible but hadn’t worked out the kinks as Kara had done. I also loved the second ending that I definitely didn’t see coming! I’ve already recommend this book to several friends who are on the lookout for its release date. Overall, a great read and I’m excited to read more from this author!

This had a really good concept but that's it.

Pros:
- interesting concept
- i wanted an easy thriller and that's what this was

Cons:
- Nothing interesting was done with the concept. There wasn't a lot of nuance to the discussion imo.
- Characters were 2D and bland
- Writing was bland. There were moments when there was really good descriptions but they were few and far between and ended up feeling out of place.
- I guessed the twist. It's pretty easy with domestic thrillers. All you have to do is think of who the last person is that it'd be and that's who it is.
- Nothing happened till the last half of the book
- The constants referring to Michael, the mc's boyfriend/father to her child, being black. Like it got to the point where it felt creepy. There was mentions of their son being one of the only non white children in the class so that made sense. And obviously as a white person I can't speak to diversity within small towns or the experience of poc within small towns. But it was the mc that kept bringing up their skin colour, no one else. And whenever she saw Michael she had to talk about how attractive he was and she always described his skin colour within that. I don't know. Just to me it felt a little fetishistic. But that's just my opinion.

In all honesty, I mostly read this novel for Karissa Vacker, who is one of my favourite audiobook narrators. I'm not quite sure what to say about the book itself.

In short, I was really interested in the family dynamic in this novel. The mystery itself fell kind of flat for me. The foreshadowing was so blatant to the point that it wasn't even a mystery for most of the novel. I kind of just felt like I was slowly watching the heroine realise something the reader (probably) knew all along. The climatic scene was also written in such a melodramatic fashion that it started to seem slightly satirical.

Alfie was absolutely adorable though. And Vacker's male voice still gives me chills (the good kind).

Although the reveal wasn't my cup of tea, the last line in the book kind of made up for it. And I love when authors do that.

The Rumour is a tale of suspicion, paranoia and guilt. It has a fast-paced plot that will keep you guessing to the end. When Joanna hears a rumour at the school gates, she passes it on. The rumour? A notorious child killer has been released with a new identity and could be living in her town. I loved the premise of this novel as it is relevant to what happens in the media. How lives can be ruined. Good read. 3 stars

Jeg gjetta hva «greia» var i første kapittel, men klarte likevel ikke legge den bort. Veldig spennende, men synes slutten skuffet noe.

It was okay, but there were parts that were slow.

This book had a twist I was not expecting! Even though I was annoyed with Joanna for spreading the "so-called" rumor. I was sure I knew who the real culprit was. Turns out I was wrong. I recommend this book if you like mystery and suspense. A compelling read! I voluntarily read this book via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
