Gostei da história, do enredo e da maneira como foi contada..
Acho que o fim foi apressado e houve personagens que podiam ter sido mais exploradas. Mas gostei muito da história.

4 stars! I was so excited and lucky to receive an advanced copy of The Rumour. A fantastic debut novel by Lesley Kara about the dangers of spreading rumours in a small town. The story follows Jo, a single mum, who accidentally mentions a rumour she overhears at the school gate. Jo casually lets it slip to a few ladies in her book club that an infamous reformed child killer could be living in their town. Not usually being the gossipy type, Jo instantly regrets saying anything and soon realises the can of worms she has opened. When she starts receiving threats against her son Jo believes the killer blames her for the rumour and the race begins to find out who the killer is before someone she loves gets hurt.

This book was highly engaging and if you are like me you will drive yourself insane trying to guess the killers identity. I must admit that I sorta-kinda guessed PART of the twist at the end but for the most part it was pretty shocking. Highly recommend and look forward to reading more by this talented author.

Thanks kindly to Netgalley, publisher and author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

It’s not you, book, it’s me. I keep seeing synopses that sound really exciting, but then they never match up to my expectations. I feel like psychological thrillers should be right up my street, but I’m always disappointed whenever I read one. Before too long I have a certain sense of ennui. I feel sufficiently invested to want to know whether I’ve guessed correctly, but I want the book experience to be over as soon as possible. I think I just really hat books that use the present tense.

This book was okay, I thought the plot was actually quite interesting, how quickly a rumour can spread and why gossip and hearsay can be so damaging. I enjoyed the twists although I guessed some of them too, but it’s just the writing I didn’t enjoy, I felt like the main character inner voice was just irritating.

This one was a little hard to get into but ended up being really good. I thought I had it figured out but I was wrong.

LOVED IT!!!

Twist was fanstaic and the excruiating unravelling of the "who the child killer was" is utterly heartbreaking.

The story is fast paced story with short chapters creating a lot of suspense. This is fantastic, cant put me down dark thriller with Kara skilfully capturing the nature aof small town living.

It is a stark warning to those who gossip with Kara demonstrating just how devestating rumours can be.

This book surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. It was a very quick read and it was really well-written. The story is about a single mom who overhears a rumor that a child killer is in their town and how the rumor quickly spirals out of control. I was able to speed through this book and I almost gave it a 5 star. My problem with the book is that it started to run in circles towards the end and it felt kind of convoluted. I was able to guess the plot twist by the second or third page but it was nice seeing that I was right and it was a nice read that I was pleasantly surprised by.

This is a very difficult review to write. When I'm offered an ARC from the publisher and author for an honest review, I really try to take time on the book to really give a fair review. I've been given the opportunity to read some really amazing books this way & have gone on to encourage others to read them to - even when out shopping with strangers! Sadly, I can't find anything really good or exciting to say about this book.
The copy I was provided was an uncorrected proof, and I can only hope that others have noticed these issues & they have been fixed before publication.
I felt that the story wasn't believable at all. I felt that there were far too many characters in the book and it became really confusing as I read along. Most of those characters could have easily be omitted & not affected the story.
From reading other reviews, and the acknowledgements at the end of the book, I see that this book was first written with a setting in the UK & then "Americanized". I cannot for the life of me understand WHY this was attempted. And it was done so very, very badly. I don't think those who attempted this had much or any experience with America or a map of the country. The constant use of the word 'sea' was a dead giveaway ( I've never encountered ant American to use that word) & this book is supposed to be set in Chicago & Iowa. No sea! No ocean! Also, Dearborn (Michigan) & Chicago (Illinois) are not the same nor even close by. It was just so distracting.
The constant comments about Michael's race was tedious & at one point Joanna/Johannah/Jo/Joan/Joey/JJ/etc ... comments that they were the picture of a hipster family with a black stay at home dad and a working white mother. Even though days have passed since I read that, I'm still offended.
By the time we came to the big reveal, everyone in town had been accused of being Sally & I just did not care at all.

I feel that the author read "Big Little Lies" & said "I can do that" but it really didn't work out in my opinion. Why this is even being compared to that book baffles me.

I'm sorry, but this is a 1 star book for me.

Even though I disliked the book so much, I am grateful to the publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read and review this book.
