The Rumor by Lesley Kara

3.0

In all honesty, I mostly read this novel for Karissa Vacker, who is one of my favourite audiobook narrators. I'm not quite sure what to say about the book itself.

In short, I was really interested in the family dynamic in this novel. The mystery itself fell kind of flat for me. The foreshadowing was so blatant to the point that it wasn't even a mystery for most of the novel. I kind of just felt like I was slowly watching the heroine realise something the reader (probably) knew all along. The climatic scene was also written in such a melodramatic fashion that it started to seem slightly satirical.

Alfie was absolutely adorable though. And Vacker's male voice still gives me chills (the good kind).

Although the reveal wasn't my cup of tea, the last line in the book kind of made up for it. And I love when authors do that.
