I was disappointed in this Reichs book. I do enjoy the Dr Brennan books normally, but I found this one difficult to follow. There were so many 'twists' that I got bored and stopped caring which body had been in which grave. The gang warfare story could have been unfolded further, too.

I’m a little sad about this book. I am a big fan of all the books in the series so far with the exception of one other so it saddens me that I was torn between a 2 and a 3.
For starters it was very slow to catch my attention and make me want to keep reading. Almost every book I’ve read in the series to date reached a point (sometime quickly, sometimes a little further in) that I did not want to stop and would consider cancelling plans to stay home and keep reading. This book i reaches a point where I just wanted to keep reading in hopes it would be over.
Secondly, I could not keep straight which body was which and where all these missing people kept coming from. It almost seemed like they needed some filler and room for potential curve balls for a story that you could tell pretty quickly that some how the guy in the lake dodged the war and someone took his place.
Lastly, Katy really annoyed me in this book. I feel like she was ungrateful and yes I understand she is grieving but in no way should that make you feel like the world owes you! The more and more she is present in the books the less and less I like her.
On a positive not it was a nice break from the typical someone breaks in to temperance’s apartment, kidnaps her, and almost kills her with Ryan coming to her rescue (yes I know there was still an attempt on her life but at least she mixed it up a little)
Lengthy review and I apologize but hopefully I’m not the only one with this thoughts and sentiments. Looking forward to the next one with hopes it will save this for me.

Kathy Reichs' books are always readable, and this is true for this installment of the Temperance Brennan series. However there is nothing in this book that makes it exceptional.
I have been read all of the books in this series and I have come to expect two things, Tempe and Ryan will continue their angsty relationship and Tempe will always find herself in a dangerous situation caused by her work.
I felt like there were some things in this story that work adequately dealt with. Still it was an ok installment, that I liked...there just wasn't anything to set it apart.

It's Brennan vs. the draft dodging auto-erotic asphyxiation victim!
Our favorite anthropologist gets to do a little sleuthing from Hawaii. Since it's currently 6 degrees for me, I'm a bit jealous. I could do without the corpses she has to encounter, I suppose.
I can only assume that Reichs came across a weird case & wanted to include it in a book. Or perhaps it was a compilation of several weird cases. Either way, the method of death didn't really have anything to do w/ the rest of the story. Reichs managed to keep the boy drama to a minimum in this one, so that's a definite plus. We did get the "Brennan nearly gets killed" and "Brennan has several bizarre dreams that seem to have no purpose" required portions of the plot, though. To tell the truth, at this point I would be disappointed if they were left out & I couldn't complain about them. This one was better than some of the previous ones & I'd give it 3.5 stars.

This was confusing to follow and seemed really farfetched. Tempe's staccato manner of thinking (i.e. "was he annoyed? Confused? Angry?" etc) really got on my nerves this time.

Fingerprints identify a corpse freshly dead as belonging to a man who died in Vietnam in 1968. Who really died then and who's hiding now? And why are we in Hawaii? A bit formulaic (is that a word?) at times, but rather enjoyable. The storyline with the daughters was entertaining and made me glad I don't live with teenagers.

I don t know why I bother reading this series of books anymore. The best was definitely the first 'de ja Dead'. so good i could NOT put it down, but this 13 th offering I would have happily put down and not bothered to pick up again aside from my determination to finish what I start. Glad I only paid book exchange price for it.

Reichs delivers again, I read this in just a few sittings. The cases are interesting, the science is interesting and I always spending time with Brennan and her law and science crew. Can't believe I got so behind in the series. This year I will be working to catch up.
