Quite boring. No smut. The storyline is lacklustre. Wouldn’t recommend. The only reason the rating isn’t one is because of the cute cat.

dnf i truly couldn't focus during any of the dialogues because of the spelled out accent. idk if this is bc i am not a native english speaker? maybe, but i hate having to do mental gymnastics wondering how "yez" could ever be "you". i loved the author's note at the beginning of the book giving celebrity references! that should have been enough! anyway the plot was also nuts but i loooove crazy dumb ideas so that wouldn't have been a problem :(

MY HEART MY HEART I LOVE ALEXIS HALL.

Alexis Hall is a romance writer like no other, someone who writes messy and complicated characters who fall in love not in spite of their differences, but because of them. Sam is on the verge of being fired by Jonathan when an accident gives him a stay of execution while he recovers from a maybe-not-so-real concussion. The way these two opposites come together is silly in all the best ways and beautifully romantic, with the Alexis Hall signature cast of ludicrous characters surrounding them. I love this so much.

Hall writes the most ridiculous people behaving in absolutely ludicrous ways, and I'm not just talking about his completely bananas and adorable supporting cast. Jonathan and Sam are just as ridiculous as the rest of them, but that's okay.

It's hilarious, it's Christmas, it's While You Were Sleeping with gays in retail. Who could ask for anything more?! I'm going to reread this one as soon as the holiday lights go up. A perfect gem of a romance novel.

3.5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book more than Husband Material. I thought I had sworn off Alexis Hall after that but found myself pleasantly surprised by this one.

I enjoyed the premise of Sam trying to save his branch by faking amnesia. What was odd was how it developed into this live in situation with Jonathon. I didn’t hate it but it was just sort of out there that his boss would take him in while he recovered from a head injury.

I digress. The characters felt fresh and new. Not a copy and paste of his previous works. The side characters were great and added to the plot and comedic relief. Albeit there were so many side characters to keep track of.

The story fell apart for me with the romance aspect. The audience didn’t get a lot of “getting to know you” conversation. Jonathan would say “I just know you” when discussing Sam and Sam was convinced Jonathon was a jerk 99% of the time. It felt like the forced proximity created this bond and without exploring their feelings, the two just stuck together. Wish it was more.

I think it says a lot about the genre that I'm relieved there was no physical abuse bc I really thought this was going there quite a few times. Jonathan needed actual therapy for his anger issues and then maybe this could be 5 stars? I dunno I'm still conflicted on this one. A lot of it was fun and lighthearted, and I adored both Jonathan's family and Sam's employees, which make up most of this. I'm just not sure I'm sold on the romance (the romance book didn't need the romance. My reviews are useless, don't listen to me. Except im sort of right because i think the subplots could carry this).

I liked this book. Did I love it? Not necessarily, but I would recommend it.

I thought it was an easy, fun read and there were some wonderful swoon moments.

I just thought the premise was odd, no judgement to anyone who has faked amnesia though.

I loved this so so much. I did listen to the audiobook and that gives it an extra star - the narration was so delightful that I legitimately laughed out loud at some points.

This was cute! I really enjoyed the slow burn of this romance. I know everyone doesn’t love a closed door/fade to black, but I do, and I think it worked well here. My favorite thing was probably the parts with Jonathan’s family and the slight christmassy vibes. The biggest drawback for me was the fake amnesia plot. The suspension of disbelief was difficult to maintain at points. Mostly it was just annoying and silly. But bonus points for the cat!!
