I was a little bit nervous about this book because of how Husband Material ended, because as I was listening, (Alexis Hall writes amazing books) and the way the story was going I was really nervous when the main characters finally were able to connect with each other it was so close to ending. I was pleasantly surprised and satisfied at how the story ended, and I just can’t put a price on Will Watt as the narrator he is amazing. The witty banter made it a great rom com. So much can be done with fake amnesia and whatever could go wrong, did go wrong. I loved all the coworkers I could not get enough of the coworkers I cannot get enough of Jonathan‘s family it just made me laugh so much. I absolutely love this book.

I picked this up cause the premise sounded so ridiculous and it was lol. I don't watch soap operas, but I imagine they would go something like this book. It was so funny, and I loved the banter! Not just from Sam and Johnathon, but also Sam and pretty much every other character including the cat (Gollum<3) cause they were all hilarious. I really like Alexis Hall's writing

I wasn't ever really rooting for the romance, though. Even after Johnathon's character development where he turned out to be almost a normally decent human being and I didn't dislike him so much (I actually really liked his character even when he fully deserved the title of His Royal Dickishness but still), it was impossible for me to get past the amnesia lie. Although I'm always rooting for a happy ending, I couldn't believe that Johnathon would be able to get past that so easily, and I honestly didn't want him to cause it just made me sad. It almost felt like they were both just so lonely that they felt like they couldn't do/didn't deserve better.

Well, I guess I can tick off 'Listen to an audiobook in a Liverpool accent off my bingo card 🤣 the narrator (Will Watt) did such an amazing job with the different characters and the comedic timing and everything. It was FULL of delightful British humour and I ate it up! I also discovered a new trope, fake amnesia 🤣 I mean, of course that plot point was a bit predictable but it was still a very nice book.

You've come into my life like a beam of very annoying sunshine. You talk so much that I miss it when you're not. You try to fix things I didn't even realise were broken. You have a dreadful sense of humour to which I've somehow become habituated. You care about people so effortlessly it makes me able to put up with them. And then you kissed me and now I..." He lets his head slip further down into his hands. "...I don't know how I'm supposed to go the rest of my life without being kissed by you again.

Samwise is a wisecracking scouse who runs a Bed and Baths store. On a visit to his boss Jonathan Forrest - a steely-eyed shithead cosplaying as a Tory - he not only ends up being fired but also crushed by a bazillion glass plates that leave him with a concussion… and an idea to save his store from being closed. Let the cutesy enemies to lovers amnesia plot line commence.

It does what it says on the tin. It’s cute, gay, full of tropes and perfectly Christmassy for the holiday season. It’s not that grand but I’ve given it the fifth star for the amazing narrator over at BookBeat. Yay Christmas gays.

Finished it. Loved it. Immediately started reading it again. More review to come once I can be at least sort of coherent about it all.

ETA: 10 Things delivers everything I hope for in an Alexis Hall book—hilarity and reality and humanity all rolled into one package; a delightful cacophony of flesh-and-blood supporting characters; and *feelings* where you’d least expect them, tucked in amongst the witty banter and wry commentary.

Sam and Jonathan are disasters, and I adore them. If their story were a Hallmark Christmas movie, I’d joyfully watch it every year—and I bet it’d make me happy-cry every single time.

Another ETA: My third read-through, as an audiobook this time. The book was already 5 stars when I just read it with my eyeballs, but now I’m wishing I could give even more! Will Watt’s performance was phenomenal, and every character came to life in distinct and delightful ways—from Jonathan’s chaos family, to Gollum’s weird cat noises, to Sam and Jonathan bickering over how to stuff a chicken, this was such a fun audiobook.

Another masterpiece from Alexis Hall. The novel has a gentle back and forth rhythm throughout. It made me snort with laughter and at other times, my heart to sink. While I was frustrated at times with the protagonist, I could also empathize with them and ultimately love Sam, Jonathan and their extended family. I seem to always see neurodivergent traits in Halls characters and it makes my heart sing.
Definitely recommend!
