I do enjoy these books. You can't read them if you're looking for something super serious and well written though. It has to only be because you are looking for something easy and mindless. I love the story line but the way it's written is a bit....... off. For instance, once the author has a cliche but clever way of describing something, he uses it almost every page. "The bruise colored bags under his eyes." (this line was used almost every time the author wanted to convey someone was tired) "The bruise colored tongue darted out of it's mouth." It's very dramatic. Again, you can't read this if you want something that makes you think. It does stay interesting though. I finished the book quickly and easily. It doesn't take long. The chapters are only a couple pages long. I recommend this for anyone trying to escape for a few days in a fluffy world.

Devoured this book and I was wildly entertained. The downsides come from the actual writing and plot holes which weren’t the most cohesive. Also it feels like there's a hundred pages on one “chase”/fight which seemed unnecessary. I will continue the series tho

This book introduced me to this series. I read it first in my mother tongue and I loved it quite a bit, despite that I missed an entire book before that (my father got it for me because I asked him to bring me back something from the library). Now after I read the first book and have reread this one, I really love the character of Nicholas Flamel and Machiavelli but the writing is kind of middle-grade and Perenelle is a boring chore to read. Not to mention how annoying the twins are.

In this 2nd installment in the series, author Michael Scott spends less time explaining the magical world, and diving right in where book 1 left off. Without spoiling the plot, twins Sophie and Josh must find out what it means to have magical powers awakened and what it means to come across the Elders from ancient times and other realms and the best ways to handle the encounters. However, when the twins begin to doubt Nicholas Flamel's good intentions, will the duo find themselves in the cluthes of Dr. John Dee and Niccholo Machevelli?

The twins are very annoying, but I’m also a grown adult that can no longer relate to 15 year olds. I still enjoyed the book. It’s definitely a easy read and can be difficult to put down. I really like the theme that there’s a piece of truth in every myth or legend, and how they’ve incorporated so many historical figures.

I couldn't get my hands on this book during the school year because my students had it. I enjoy Scott's mix of legends, mythology, and historical figures throughout this series and his characters are engaging. A great read for people who have finished Harry Potter and Percy Jackson and wonder what to read next.
