Loved the world building and time taken to flesh out most of the Characters. Tense moments and times that tugged at the heartstrings. Looking forward to next  book in the Trilogy

This book kept me on my toes from page 1 to the very last sentence. I laughed, I raged, I ugly cried, and then I called my best friend and screamed at her to finish it so we could talk about it. For fantasy lovers, and those who’ve always wondered what it felt like to fly on the back of a dragon, this is for you. Violet’s character development; seeing her grow from meek and undesirable to the most powerful and cunning rider in the quadrant was the best part of this book, and teaches that strength is not always measured in size and stature, but in resilience, intelligence, and dedication to yourself and your cause. Add in super badass best friends, forged friendships, and a LOT of spicy tension, and you’ll be turning pages in a blink.

Suddenly, I can’t remember exactly why Mira told me to not fuck around outside my year group.” I put this book off for so long because of the hate on Tiktok for it and I’m mad I did. The author’s controversies aside, I think it’s a good book for people beginning to dive in to the fantasy genre, aka me. The writing is pretty simple, nothing intricate. There is development in and between the characters, though some may say it was a little fast. This is not an enemies to lovers, they both have feelings for each other very early on. Overall everything about it is just simple. Nothing complicated. And that’s not a bad thing because I do like this book. But the simplicity of it, is why I think so many experienced fantasy readers hated on it. Though I will say I’m not entirely sure why it was so hyped either. That being said I will continue the series as I enjoyed reading it.

A fun, fast-paced read and a good way to get a “dragon-fix” outside Game of Thrones. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

The disability representation feels liberating.
The idea that friends would celebrate accommodations and push the disabled person to wrestle with their internalized ableism feels revelatory.
The adventure and mystery are fun, and the enemies to lovers storyline is satisfying.

My biggest concern, which I was able to set aside once the fun story sucked me in: With few exceptions, the good characters are Good and bad characters are Bad which feels YA.

You will not be able to put it down once Violet begins her final quest. And when you do finish your head will explode. 🤯 I finished at 2:36 am.
