It was good! If you are a major analytical literary critic, you will not appreciate the level of writing. However, I read to enjoy and this was fairly enjoyable! I wish there was more of a slow burn though… I don’t want enemies to lovers touching until the 70th book yk

My only gripe with this series is that "Basgiath War College" stands out like a sore thumb. It's the shit stain to an otherwise really well and carefully painted work of art. The concept of a military academy can be so easily introduced in a fantasy setting with the right selection of words. And don't even get me started on the logo. It all makes it pretty un-immersive, especially if you're aging this universe by placing a quadrant of SCRIBES.

Oh, this was a whole journey.

I knew from the beginning that I was not exactly the target audience. I was here all for the fantasy, not the romance in the slightest, along with being an asexual lesbian. But despite some of my eye rolls, I found myself absolutely hooked by the adventure this book took me on in the rest of it's plot. The action was enthralling, the dragons exhilarating, and overall this book felt so ALIVE. Good luck to the upcoming TV adaptation in trying to top how stunningly vivid this book played out for me in my mind.

If you are a fantasy lover as apprehensive about the YA-energy as I was, I recommend you give it a shot. It really, REALLY picks up.
