The ending was way overhyped, but its not a bad one. BookTube really loved this ending, but its pretty average to me -- though I can see why several of the BookTubers who hyped this up did, based on their preferences in books.
This book is good, and it has several entertaining and unique plot points, but it does suffer from a few tropes that a large number of people will not like, myself included. That being said, it doesn't ruin the book, just makes me roll my eyes.
Overall, it's worth finishing the series, but I still don't think Brent Weeks is ever going to write a top 10 fantasy series for me -- regardless of how much my IRL friends love his books. I think that younger readers and those relatively inexperienced in the modern fantasy genre will like this series more than experienced fantasy readers will.

I really wasn't sure what to expect for the ending of this series, and there were definitely things about the ending that I enjoyed, but also quite a few things I didn't like.
I'm a sucker for happy endings, and I loved getting to see some of the characters get the ending they deserved, but in a way it also didn't feel as realistic, since people rarely get what they deserve (but maybe that's just me being a cynic lol).
The magic system was one of the things that I enjoyed most throughout this whole series, and I thought it was so unique. The author did a really great job of describing the system and the laws that govern it, but I felt like some of those hard and fast laws ended up getting thrown out the window in the last little bit of the book, which was kind of annoying.
There is quite a bit of a religious aspect throughout the entire series, which I thought the author handled quite beautifully. My one gripe with this was that in the last 100 pages or so, the author got kind of pushy with the religion and, for me, it really detracted from the story.
One other thing I didn't like was that I felt like the pacing was off at some points. There were quite a few chapters that seemed redundant and unnecessary. The end battle also seemed very rushed, even though there was soooo much build-up to it, which I didn't really enjoy either.
The characters were the one thing in this book that I have absolutely no complaints about - I loved them all so much! Teia's arc was probably my favorite out of the whole series, she goes through so much and is changed because of it, which I thought the author captured really well. Gavin is probably my favorite character in the whole series, I just think his story was so awesome and there were so many plot twists along the way. Many aspects of Kip I related with, and I loved seeing how much he grew up, evolved, and got better throughout the books. The Mighty as a group was really great, and I loved the family-friendship aspect it added to the story.
Overall, this was probably one of the most unique series that I've read in quite a long time. And although the ending wasn't entirely my favorite, I still really enjoyed the book and will definitely want to re-read this series at some point in the future!

Weird ending (plot holes, and literally a couple deus ex machinas ) to a good serie.

It feels bittersweet to finish a series that I started 4 years ago and kept up with as books were released.. overall this was a rollercoaster read and didn't finish how I expected but I am mostly satisfied and look forward to more in the future from Brent.

An epic conclusion to an epic story. My mind is still buzzing. The imagery is so outstanding that I can almost actually see it as vividly as a movie on a large screen. The characters a complex and real. There are even a few tear rending moments, and I am usually pretty flat when it comes to that.
Even the acknowledgements are entertaining and witty. Brent Weeks apologizes for pushing back the publication date for this one. The wait was worth it. When I heard that the conclusion was coming soon I re-read the first three stories and then read the fourth for the first time. That shortened the wait and refreshed the story for me. If only there was a higher rating option than 5 stars. I would give the complete series a 10. And I thought when the Night Angel Trilogy became my favorite story nothing would be able to top it. I'm glad I was wrong. It is now a close second. Hopefully waiting for what is next from a steadily improving author.
