I’d give this book 3.5 stars if I could but I’ll drop it down to 3. The series was very interesting and the magic was unique. For this book things just ended a little too tidy for me. I’m not one to wish main characters would die, but I think it would have been so much more meaningful if Kip had stayed dead. I get that he’s supposed to be a Christ-like figure that’s been resurrected, but his coming back did nothing for the book. The story could have totally carried on without him being alive, and instead he could have been honored for his sacrifice. It was way too predictable that he was brought back to life, and then we get Dazen back too? It just all seems a little too perfect. For Karris, the promise that she would get back the years the locusts ate away could have been fulfilled through getting a grandchild. This could have happened with Tisis actually being pregnant at the end. There still could have been a very happy ending, even if Kip wasn’t alive. Every main character went into the final battle thinking they weren’t going to come back alive, and surprise!!! They all did! Kip doesn’t get to be the lightbringer, or get any real honor in the end, and doesn’t even get to draft anymore. Seriously, his survival was pointless. He would have made much more of an impact being a martyr/hero.

I was really, really worried about the ending.... but as it turns out, it was AMAZING. Brent Weeks did an amazing job of providing realistic plot twists, and the book had a very interesting cliffhanger-y ending (even though it's the last book in the series) which was also a nice touch. I only have one complaint, which has been my complaint for the last 2 1/2 books and it's that Kip and Teia didn't get back together. They didn't even really have a full fledged conversation at the end of the book, which I would've liked to see even if they were just friends. *Dramatic Sigh*. I guess Kip will just be with **** Tisis. But yeah aside from my ruined romantic dreams, the twists, character development, world building, and especially the magic system was crazy good. I'm definitely going to read it again!

A new favorite series

The Lightbringer series is has now entered the echelon of my favorite books. These 5 books have affected and moved me in a way like nothing else.

There are certainly... Some leaps in this book that won't sit well with people but I bought it enough. It l feels right on that line but I think Brent handled it well.

This story felt so complete that it makes me sad that it seems like another story in this world wouldn't make sense. Wow, the color magic is probably one of the coolest magics I've ever seen. And so many philosophical discussions about mirror.

I'm curious what his next book will be but I'll be there.

I liked this a lot more than the previous book in the series, but still its ending just wasn't as satisfying as I would have liked it to be. There was something about the pacing of the book that took me out of both these past two books that didn't bother me as much in the previous ones. Still, I am glad that I finished the series and at least it ended, unlike some other series I could name.
