DNF— I got this on audio, but definitely needs to be a page read/reference book.

Post-COVID times brought a shared sentiment of pulling back the curtains. A desire to change the way we viewed life and the world around us. This book is a product of that time. It is satiating, not only for its culinary excerpts but for its historical ones, too. This book doesn't shy away from informing the reader about the histories of some of the most popular (and least popular) destinations, even at the risk of calling out certain first world countries.
If you are new to traveling, or you just want some inspiration on where to visit next, I highly recommend this book. Browse through it as if looking through a menu. See what looks good and go from there.

Since this book is a posthumous collection of Bourdain's various travels to various places, it works better as a reference than the trademark stream-of-consciousness narrative I was hoping for. Still, the text does a good job of paying homage to the legend, and placing his quotes in bold blue to contrast them against the threads holding the patches together (akin to how Jesus's words are in red in some New Testaments) was a wise choice.

This book is a posthumous collection of communication between Bourdain and his assistant, Laurie Woolever. It's filled with Bourdain's trademark humor, wit, and candor. It's both a travel guide and personal reflection on his favorite destinations and culinary experiences.
I bought this book a while back. I enjoyed it and love Bourdain's humor. I found it interesting and it had me add some items to my travel bucket list. I don't know if this needed to be published though. I feel like you get more of Anthony Bourdain when you watch his show, No Reservations. I found the travel tips helpful but unnecessary when we have Google and search engines. I say this because the book was published in 2021 and much of the information could be obsolete or irrelevant.
This would be the perfect book for someone who's never traveled or traveled internationally because the insights and tips help train you on what to look for. This a perfect coffee table book. Something to pick up, pick a random page and enjoy.

I knew Anthony Bourdain was a man of the world and brilliant. This book made me realize just how true that is, though. As a fellow person who schedules their life around seeing the world– this book is EVERYTHING. It feels like you’re traveling the world with him- reading a travel guide mixed with a vulgar honesty. Every single place, every single one has a beauty. Often times, the beauty is in food. I can’t recommend this one enough if you love travel, food, and/or learning about the world and it’s people all around you and all around the world.

DNF at ~15% - I appreciate what this book was trying to do and how they were trying to do it without Bourdain but it just didn't have his heart and felt very sterile.

I’m not sure exactly what I was expecting from this book, maybe more of a travel essay type book about a bunch of different places Anthony Bourdain had visited around the world, but it isn’t that. A lot of people seem to be very disappointed in this book and while it wasn’t what I was expecting it gave me enough Anthony Bourdain that I liked it.
What it is is a cross between Anthony Bourdain quotes from his numerous tv shows, interviews, and books and an actual travel guide book with details on airports, transportation, hotels, and restaurants. It really isn’t just a book to read, even though that’s what I did, read it in order, alphabetically, country or city, one after the other. Some had lots of quotes, which I could hear in Bourdain’s voice as I read them, others had just a snippet of a particular restaurant or chef that must have really stood out. There were a few travel essays written by others, like Anthony’s brother, thrown in here and there, and they were some of the best parts.
While don’t think this is a book I’d necessarily recommend to anyone. If I knew someone was traveling to an area that was mentioned in the book and they were an Anthony Bourdain fan I’d probably tell them to check out the section of the book on that place.
