really enjoyable, love that it’s getting more serious and more mysteries are being uncovered. still second to the 4th book, but one of the more interesting ones in the series

my favourite so far, really like the dynamic between camicazi and hiccup (without fishlegs… maybe a bit mean) and found their relationship really enjoyable to see blossom. felt like a good turning point in the story with a lot of build up for future plots

loveeee humungus, found their love story rather heartbreaking but filled with underlying messages particularly for younger audiences that need to be remembered as they grow. was really enjoyable to read and was very entertaining. definitely up in the favourites list from this series

this book was really entertaining with lots of things going on at once. i found i was not ever bored during this story, as even during the quieter moments, there was plenty to consider - the unknown land, the chance of survival, the importance of the clock/compass. i did find the fact that they did not step foot on american land despite being metres away from the land both disappointing yet comforting at the same time, as my curiosity so desperately wanted them to discover new cultures and identities, but my heart knew there were other adventures to unfold.

definitely more enjoyable than the second book. happy to meet camicazi as fishlegs alone was getting a little boring. the roman’s were a fun addition to the story, seeing the new conflict and villain, allowing hiccup to develop as a character and mature slightly as he figures out new plans. although, i did find toothless quite irritating in this one

really did like the whole idea of the coffin and grimbeards mystery and hidden treasure, but soemthing was just lacking in this book. not sure if it was the pacing, the climax setup, or alvin’s character in this book, but the build up and excitement just trailed off throughout the book despite the ideas being quite solid. unfortunately one of my least favourite in the series

classic first book in the series. toothless is annoying and gets in my nerves - meaning he is written perfectly. set up everything nicely, allowing it to be built on in the future books. still, only 3/5 as i know there will be others that i rate higher as they will be more entertaining and action packed rather than just a set up
