I attempted reading this a few months back and DNF’d it for the time being. Now that I’ve made it all the way through I regret not finishing it sooner! June’s story was incredible and told a lot about the love siblings have for each other 💟
So I like to write my reviews as a word dump after I finish reading for the day/night and then when I finish, I clean up my review and make it pretty. Up until I finished this book, my review had looked like a How To guide for How To Hate Holden 😂 I was so convinced that he was a controlling, abusive, and arrogant 18 year old and that Sky was a clueless 17 year old who was never given enough attention as a child so she sought that love out of her first real boyfriend. WOW was I so wrong 🥺 I could not believe the ending of this one y’all, I was SHOOK
“Marx was a prodigious reader, and he felt like Sadie might be the kind of book that one could read many times, and always come away with something new”
This book KILLED me and then revived me. It’s been a long while since I read a book that had me sobbing and laughing so closely to each other, and this one did exactly that. I fell in love with these characters slowly but without question and over time found myself so immersed in their stories I would forget where I was.
I HIGHLY recommend this one and I regret waiting so long before reading!
This story follows AnnieLee Keyes on her journey to find her big break in Nashville. She is an aspiring country artist, desperate to escape a secretive, dangerous past. As we get to know more about her, we’re introduced to a couple of different characters along the way one of which I felt didn’t get the recognition he deserved. Ethan Blake felt like more of a side character than he did the MMC. There were some little easter eggs hidden throughout the story about him that I felt could’ve contributed a lot more to the story, and a lot more reasoning as to why he was the way that he was. Especially when it came to his feelings for AnnieLee Keyes.
I really wanted to hate the FMC here... I felt like at the beginning of the story she gave off really bad “pick me girl“ vibes, and it annoyed me. There were multiple instances where I felt like she was portrayed as this type of 20 something that “wasn’t like other girls” And didn’t like being called “little” so I felt like it took away from the story of getting me to like her.
⚠️possible spoilers ahead⚠️
Towards the end of the story, though, I found myself falling more in love with her, and the past that she had escaped from. I even found myself crying when one of the scenes indicated a little bit more of a dire ending.
Overall, I’d give this book a solid 3.75/5. It was thrilling and engaging and such an easy read ❤️
Hurt for me was an insanely thrilling story of a mom whose career and tainted past is threatening to catch up to her 15 years later. Without spoiling too much, it’s a well written story about a mom who would lay it all on the line for her daughter, a woman with a tormented secret past and above all a girl who was badly hurt. This story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading
