It was a great end to the series. Even though I wanted Nassun to cause complete chaos, I understand the choices she made at the end. I appreciated how Jemisin answered every question you could have had in this book.

I never want to see a live action adaptation of this book tho. People will destroy it. The series is too perfect to be messed with.

I liked the story a lot. Garrett’s dad is an ass. Their relationship is cute but Logan’s feelings and Garrett’s inaction are wierd AF.

WTF……WTF…..WTF….It’s like a glorious train wreck that I had the hardest time not watching. I was so uncomfortable with so much of this book……..and still I read on.

You have been warned.

I hate comparing books but it definitely reminded me of Den of Vipers. The types of male characters were very similar. The Simmering with Anger/Well put together leader, The big, crazy enforcer, the quiet sexually traumatized stealth guy, and the lothario. The ending was a bit underwhelming but the MC was very much a badass I enjoy.

The book was sweet…. A utopia of sorts that answer or proposes a lot of questions all us millennials find ourselves asking.

I love a good story about a group of students coming together to learn something about themselves, their environment, and come together to fight! The characters were very interesting even though some are a bit stereotypical. I enjoyed how placed kids together who would be natural enemies in the marvel universe.

The book did leave a LOT open, more than I’ve seen in a traditional 6 issue story arc but I’m still interested!

I definitely loved this retelling of Olympus. Making the gods mortal with political power in the city?!? Fantastic. The way each “god” assumes to power was amazing. The world was beautifully built with amazing precision. the plot heavily relied on the strength of the world. By no stretch of the imagination was the plot bad…it just paled in comparison to the amazing world the author built.

I would definitely read book 2 just to experience that world again tho.

It’s a messy society book with excursions, death, drama, white-passing black people….. it had everything expected from a book written in 1902…and it still had a black cultural lens. You can definitely see the influence this book has had on black sci-fi/ speculative fiction and ethnogothic. I loved it.
