The Return of Ellie Black by Emiko Jean

This is a dark yet fun thriller. It wasn’t super predictable or unbelievable.
There are multiple POV and time jumps that are done well. I never felt confused with the pacing or voice changes.

The Lost Story is probably going to end up being my favorite book of the year. West by God Virginia did I love it!

This book is a fairytale written for adults. There's magic (of course), a queen and a lost princess, intelligent helpful animals, a dark and dangerous city, and true love.

I truly didn't know what to expect when I started this book. I had picked it as a Book of the Month selection based on this quick take: " Let this fairytale for adults filled with unicorns and hidden kingdoms enchant you with a fable about second chances. "

Found family and romance are big themes through out the story. I just loved the love story between these two characters (I won't say which so I don't spoil the surprise).
I also really loved Emily's character -- she's sweet and funny and just all around perfect. Boop!

Ok and I also really loved that Fleetwood Mac is basically the soundtrack to this book.

I do not typically read holiday books, there are very very few I will want to pick up, but gosh did I love this short little holiday romance.
And now I really want some Christmas cookies.

Read this if you want a queer romance with vampires set in the regency era.

In theory I love the idea of this book but I'm learning that I'm not a huge fan of Regency era books/movie. With that in mind, I still think it's a great book and that a lot people will enjoy it. It's just not my personal cup of tea.

The god of the vampires, Vrykolakas, has a plan to rid the country of vampire hunters. He gives Lucian a task -- stripped of his immortality, he must infiltrate the duke’s marriage competition to find these hunters. If he succeeds in winning the duke’s hand procuring the information, Vrykolakas will make him the most powerful vampire in existence.

Lucien agrees, suspecting this will be an easy task. When he arrives at the duke’s manor he’s greeted by an old friend and begins to uncover the mystery of the duke’s missing brother.

I am so underwhelmed! Nothing happened until the very end and even then, nothing really happened.
The majority of the story was descriptions of food, women, and what Ichabod likes to read. I love the idea of Sleepy Hollow and the Headless Horseman but the source material is boring.

Minor Works of Meda by Juliette Caruso

Don’t sleep on indie authors, Minor Works of Meda is one of my newest favorite books. I love the cozy fantasy adventure and the cast of characters.

The story starts off with a bang. The magical ward that keeps the human world safe from faeries has started to fall after hundreds of years of protection. Meda, an aspiring witch, sets off to find out what has happened and hopefully save the land.

Along the way she meets up with a prince, fights a sea serpent, parties with the locals, and runs away from pirates.

There’s adventure, friendship, romance. I loved it from start to finish.

I was given an advanced copy for review, all thoughts are entirely my own. Thank you Juliette Caruso and Book of Matches Media for the opportunity.

I was so happy to be back in the universe of Graves Glen. I love Erin Sterling’s humor and the banter between Bowen/Tamsyn.

To be honest, I didn’t read the synopsis so I had no idea what would happen. The time travel was so cool! But I’m not sure if I understand how it all worked out. Actually, I really do still have questions but the love story is the important part here and I enjoyed it.
Ok, so how did Bowen/Tamsyn’s involvement in the past bring back Declan? And was Emerald the ghost in the first future? Time travel can get really completed and I’m not sure if I missed something or if some details weren’t thought out. I was reading until my eyes hurt so it could just be me missing things.

Starling House is a beautiful gothic horror with a sentient house, creepy classic children’s book, ghosts and dreams, love and loneliness. I absolutely adored this book and will be coming back to it again and again.

I’m considering this a rage read. I did finish it but I also kind of hated it.
Seriously, there wasn’t a single thing about this story that I liked. I disliked every character. Literally every single one. The dialogue was cringey and tried way too hard to be “cool” and funny.
I wasn’t intrigued by the mystery — didn’t care about what happened to Annie or Mora that night. Initially I thought that maybe this book would be Ok but just one that isn’t meant for me, but the more I read it, the more I questioned how anyone could like it.

You know what, there is one thing I liked— the title. Unfortunately the inside of the book doesn’t live up to the cover.

I loved every damn minute of this book. My only regret is that I let Elastoe sit on my shelves unread for so long.
