The title says it all. This book is an intense look how White Evangelicals have manipulated the US government and it's policies, thusly affecting the history and peoples of the country. An important history to know in intimate detail as this truth makes waves into every community.  We all need to take much more interest into how our goverment is influenced by these subgroups that want to keep out "others".

A delightful correspondence to children from Father Christmas throughout the years. Contributions from beloved companions also.  Narration was perfect.

The first of many books in a series. A series abt 4 Jr High (middleschoolers) in 7th grade that form friendships and a make a business of their Baby Sitting skills. This book feels pretty surfacial as we get to know the girls and their families. Nostalgia for lots of people!

SK in his early writing era. A collection of short stories from the late 1970s. Some stories were great, some were gruesome, and some have evolved into longer novels later in his career. Overall, I don't think this is a particularly need-to-read collection unless you're a die hard SK fan. His sense of self and writing talents have evolved far beyond this early book, for which I am grateful.

I think the prose is lovely and I think it flowed nicely. Charlotte spent the first part of her journey on the ship being a moderatel  insufferable obtuse prim girl and refusing to believe things outright said. She is constantly given a pass while folks try to help her beyond what she probably deserves. She was an ally to no one in the begining except the white patriarchy. Felt to me like a case of leopards eating her face eventually. Then she finds her true purpose at the very end of the book,
when her family rejects her for being different and traumatized.  They ignore that anything like that could happen to her and she can't tolerate to be a stuffy locked up rich girl, she escapes and goes off to be a sea faring sailor.

Excellent book of essays and reflections on how humans need to have reciprocity with their own history and their own earth. Its science and love of earth (and all she produces)  intertwined with history and how to plan the futute in order to be good stewards of the land.

Young woman marries a widower and faces the scrutiny from all that loved his first wife.

The widower ends up confessing that he killed his first wife because she was cruel. He faces no punishment for his crime. It turns out that the dead wife had cancer and didn't want to die a slow death so she cruelly drove her then husband to kill her quickly

The young 2nd wife is rather bland and has no backbone or will to be an interesting person. She let's the story happen to her, rather than participate in her own life.

I was not interested in these characters. I do feel they were forming personalities and becoming  individualistic but the world felt flat to me.

I started reading this because it was mentioned in Robin Wall Kimmerer's Braiding Sweetgrass. I did not find it AS supplemental to my reading of Braiding Sweetgrass as I wanted it to be.
