Young woman marries a widower and faces the scrutiny from all that loved his first wife.

The widower ends up confessing that he killed his first wife because she was cruel. He faces no punishment for his crime. It turns out that the dead wife had cancer and didn't want to die a slow death so she cruelly drove her then husband to kill her quickly

The young 2nd wife is rather bland and has no backbone or will to be an interesting person. She let's the story happen to her, rather than participate in her own life.
