Well written but entirely disturbing and unfulfilling at the end.

Very entertaining if only vaguely historically accurate.

I am not sure that I am remotely eloquent enough to express how much this book moved, challenged and expanded my world view. It will be a book that I will often reflect on in the future and know that it has had a lasting effect on me.

I read this for a college course and it still sticks with me, I highly recommend it but suggest you have "palate" cleansers on both sides. (It is not a challenging read but can make your skin crawl at times. Or at least for me it did.) Also there is no good movie of it so don't try to find one. Just don't.
Telling Tales by Ann Cleeves

I found Ann Cleeves via Netflix and the show "Shetland" and was intrigued by what I had watched but this was the first story I had read by her. While I enjoyed it the coolest thing about it was the multiple narrators and the way that Vera Stanhope - the lead detective and main character it would seem - is just another player in the story and not the one who gets to shade everything her way. The mystery was good if somewhat lame by the end but otherwise enjoyable. I definitely will be looking for more of her books on the shelves.
