Absolutely, beautifully written and translated. My favorite translated fiction of this year. So, so happy I decided to read this for my last reading wrap up of 2024.

A true local perspective on what it means to be a Palestinian, to live in Gaza, a global story that everyone knows but least understands.

This was SOOO good!!! It’s a mixed bag but I enjoyed most of these. I loved that the stories focused on all different types of sexual orientations and ages. It was beautiful and hot as hell 🥵🥵🥵 This collection is SPICY!!! Latina authors know how to write spice 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 one thing that drove me nuts was these were too short!!! They didn’t even feel like stories, they felt like scenes in a story. Super brief.

Loved the romance but just wish the dick brother boss wasn’t included since it was so short.

I actually loved this one but it was way too short for me to rate it any higher 😭

The concept of this was excellent and incredibly intriguing but also a bit ambitious. The execution was slow-paced and messy. I almost DNFed this at around the 270 pg mark because of how slow this book was. Luckily, that’s right when the best twist in this book happened that propelled me to finish it.

Looking through other reviews, I couldn’t help but laugh when someone pointed that at the character who is supposed to be the reincarnated God of Knowledge speaks differently from everyone else. And n o t in the way you would think the God of Knowledge would talk 😂🤣

I really loved the LGBTQIA+ rep in here. A demiromantic trans indigenous MC? Hell yeah. There’s also a polyamorous relationship in here and I found it to be sooooo hot.  🥵

I am clearly not the right crowd for this book. I thought it was incredibly boring, more character-driven than plot and had too many POVs.

I’m sad I didn’t like this because I read The Marrow Thieves earlier this year and L O V E D that. I really thought I would love her story about witches but alas…here we are, in Disappointment Land 🙃🙃🙃🙃

This book started off as a four star. I was invested and though there were a lot of science words I wasn’t familiar with I understood what was going on. Somewhere in the last hundred pages though the book just turned into one big never ending loop 🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀 and it ended in such an unsatisfactory way. It completely lost the plot and just devolved into a philosophy debate and left the original story behind unfinished. I’m guessing that was done on purpose but just why? No thank you.

I haven’t read Greek Mythology, yet alone a retelling in awhile! This one was soo good!! I’d never heard of the story between Hades and Persephone. The audiobook was fantastic. It comes with two bonus chapters and an authors note. Highly recommend! Also, in case you didn’t know beforehand like me, this author is indigenous!! I thought this one wrapped up nicely and won’t be continuing the series. The second book is apparently the same story but from Hades POV.. not sure why you wouldn’t include both POVs in one book

Now that I think about it this is a bit cozy. Not a whole lot of action happens and yet it does seem like a lot goes on. I mean the book is 500 pages lol. I loved a lot about this.

The Native American rep, LGBTQIA+ rep, the queernormativity, the dragons, the female rage were all amazing!!! I love how our mc, Anequs, had two love interests and instead of picking one, she perused both like it was the most natural thing in the world. It was such a breathe of fresh air.

I would say those who liked Babel would like this. It’s very similar in the way it’s worded. I loved Babel and definitely got some of the same vibes from this. Highly recommend this book alone for the colonialism discussed, the dragons and diverse characters. Read for a more slow-paced, Fourth Wing-esque novel from a refreshing new voice.

I feel like when I went into this novel that I only had an inkling of what it was actually about. It’s post-apocalyptic and slow-moving. I would compare this book to Klara and the Sun and The Road.

I am comparing this to Klara and the Sun, because like Klara, our mc (unnamed) in this book is new and she only knows what she knows from the people around her and her surroundings. She is unfamiliar with everything in the world. This really is a coming-of-age story as we follow her as she navigates a world she did not know before and does not know now. All she knows is that it is different from what it used to be.

I compare this to The Road because it is set in a similar setting and there is some exploration of the desolate world and death is everywhere.

This book is more philosophical sci-fi. It asks a lot of questions that don’t really have answers but makes you think. It’s not my favorite type of sci-fi but it was definitely worth the read. This is relatively short and I was able to finish the audio in less than a day. The audiobook is excellent. It has a foreword at the end that really brought the novel together. The narrator, Nikki Massoud’s voice was arresting and I didn’t feel the need to do much else when listening because I was so captivated by her voice.

Incredible writing!! This is how all memoirs should be written. It was engaging and gave a micro and macro view of the effects this case had on her, her neighborhood and the nation. My only complaint is that it could have been a little shorter. Overall, a very powerful, educational, must read
