Orbital by Samantha Harvey
3.25
I kind of disagree with this being the Booker Prize winner. The book that won last year, Prophet Song, was fantastic. Orbital? I wouldn’t even call it a novel. It was poetry. The musings of six astronauts in a day of their lives in space. Was it beautiful? Certainly. But if you’re looking for a sci-fi book, this won’t be for you. It just takes place in space. This is a meditation of Earth and our relationship to it.
It’s a bit repetitive with the poetic language it uses and I’m glad it was only 200 pages. Any longer and it would have felt too long for a book that’s supposed to take place over a 24-hour period.
