This was my first book by Stephen King! I’m not a horror person at all but this was a decent intro to the genre for me. I can handle the slow creep of stuff and found this to be palatable for me.
My qualms was that this book did feel too long for things to happen but also not happen??? The premise was cool and I did enjoy the story line. At points there I felt like not a thing was happening and I found myself not locked into listening. I did like how King did build that creeping tension though of sounds and descriptive imagery of the characters in the books and wondering who was lurking in the windows. It felt classic vampirey without being extremely gimmicky! I would probably read another one of King’s works (so long as it’s not terrifying given that I am in fact a baby lol)
Ali Hazelwood you won me back with this one! I have never ran to Libby faster when I got the notif that this book was available and NO WAIT!!!!
Anywho! The characters in this book were fun to follow along! Lukas was probably the most emotionally mature 22 year old guy I’ve read ?!? Like what?! Scarlet lowkey was me for real in some moments with fearing of not being good enough and being a bit of people pleaser instead of putting herself first. I never read a sports romance so this will probably be the closest I’ll get to it and tbh I know nothing about swimming but this made me feel like I knew what the frick was going on hahaha.
Overall I found this book to be great and Hazelwood rarely disappoints (I still won’t forgive you for bride thou)!
Let me just say first that this book was a tough read but wow talk about incredible!! This also felt somewhat a little too real in the course of present day America & makes me wonder what sort of super futuristic power Butler has cuz DAMN!
This books makes you feel uncomfortable at times but I feel as if thou it’s important to feel it when reading at times! Butler’s way of writing still made this book digestible and it felt so vivid that I could clearly picture everything that was happening. This was a heartbreaking tale but I feel as this is a necessary read.
