Runaway bride gets caught by the Duke’s best friend who is, conveniently, also a Duke. Road trip ensues. The scenarios are fun, but the language is a little repetitive.

A decent story, not outstanding.

Not in the mood for so much emotion. More Women’s Fiction than Romance.

Love the narrator (Julia Whelan), but wasn’t in the mood for this type of book.

A fun twist on a standard contemporary Social Media Influencer story: meet cute takes place in the gym, our heroine is a curvy fitness gal, and our hero is a fire fighter.

Contemporary romance isn’t my favorite genre, but I appreciated the wide cast of characters, body positivity, and straight up hot hero.

So. Wooden.
I wanted to like this, but the writing style is so basic. Tried the audio book, too and that was worse. Wondering if the author or narrator are on the spectrum or if Lauren Snow is supposed to be.
A Fever in the Heartland: The Ku Klux Klan's Plot to Take Over America, and the Woman Who Stopped Them by Timothy Egan

A compelling read. Recommend for people who enjoy:
  • American history
  • Prohibition
  • Politics (interesting parallels between 1920s America and 2020s)
  • Right vs wrong

Evan’s writing style is conversational and easy to read. The book is thought provoking, but not uplifting: The Klan still exists, and literal neo-Nazis marched in Nashville 4 days after I finished reading this book. (Feb 2024)

Gorgeous count: 22. (Maximum for a readable book is 3)
The 2010's of it all...
  • reference to Donald Trump as a billionaire businessman (instead of an insurrectionist/rapist)
  • gay character introduced as hot because "all the good ones are gay"
  • sexism
  • boss babe wears the highest heels and tight skirts

Repetitive. But good thriller/action if looking for that type of book.
