A longtime fan of the stop motion movie, this book didn’t disappoint. I loved Coraline’s character and even in the book she comes off as brave and strong. I enjoyed the Beldam and the afterworld!! Especially the door and the way through it, something about it just screams mysterious. It reminds me kind of like  HP Lovecraft when he says we can’t really even describe/think about Chthulu because it is too complex to think about. The other world is something complex that we can’t even grasp and that what makes it perfect. It’s a simple read but the small details make it extra creepy! It’s perfect for a little kid and good for an adult because you pick up on the details. Really good book and really fast read.

My first time ever reading Percy Jackson and I have to say… I LOVED IT. I originally enjoyed the movies but my best friend convinced me to read the first book and I’m so glad I listened. I love Percy as a character and he really stands out for me. He’s written very well even for a kid!! Grover and Annabeth are well written side characters and I can’t wait to get to know them more. I’m definitely continuing with this series and I’m going to read all of Rick Riordans other books too, he’s amazing.

After reading other peoples reviews, I have come to a conclusion. I think it’s important that this book was made because it gives a glimpse into the the thought process of the groomed. We as readers know that it’s gross, uncomfortable and upsetting and while Elio also realizes this, his feelings are much different. Through Elio’s thoughts, we are also being groomed by Oliver to care for their relationship (see other peoples reviews calling this an amazing love story) it’s a good story, but not one about love. It’s about obsession, it’s about craving an experience but ultimately it’s about the power imbalances teenagers have with adults. How teenagers are easily taken advantage of and made to think they are in love. I honestly don’t think the writer wrote it to have this kind of meaning whatsoever which makes it worse for me. The deep dive into Elio’s sexual thoughts was disturbing. I mean, I really didn’t need to know what a 17 year old was thinking while he was going at it into a peach. I think it’s important to understand his thoughts but the amount of detail into the desires was gross. Also the writing style??? What pretentious person decided they would just add every word from the dictionary, put it into run on sentences, and then publish it? Some quotes were good but it’s too much philosophy without actually making any sense. People who praise this book for the writing and the feeling that you get while reading are weird. Honestly, the writing just made me want to finish it 10x faster just so I could be done. I love the movie compared to this. Also the fetish for Jewish people, GROSS!!! The author isn’t even Jewish which I didn’t know while reading. I was weirded out but I just went along with it because maybe he was just being expressive of his faith/background BUT NO, he just fetishized Jewish people.

This book is almost a 4 star book for me just because of the ending. I absolutely loved the ending, it just shows how much she’s grown into herself. I read a review on this book before I began to read it and it said how she has zero character growth and I truly disagree. You see her character growth as soon as she speaks with Prometheus, you see it at the end when she turns herself mortal. I cannot express how much I loved the detail, yet again the author doing such good writing. It flowed together perfectly. I’m not a huge fan on the story during some parts but I enjoyed Circe.

I enjoyed this book for sure. It was quick read once you get into it which made it easy to finish. It’s perfect to read while drinking tea or some fancy shit idk.
I enjoyed the representation of women in the book and to be honest the queer aspect was tastefully done. The writing was interesting to say the least. I don’t like a bunch of description but it’s definitely for some people. Let me tell you, this book was overly descriptive. “Smiling, I picked my way between the perky morning glories and swaying stargazers to the porch, settling beside her to the whining protest of the spring”. What the fuck does that even mean? Even in context, it is so jumbled with the writer trying to be as descriptive as she can be. The turned me off so much from enjoying it!!! I also understand it’s supposed to be a witchy book but the actual witchy references are terribly written. Also the weird gen z slang thrown in is so odd? It pisses me off just to see a random ‘dope’ or ‘fam’ or ‘wack’. The reference to Billie Eilish was so out of place it made the whole chapter terrible for me. Anyway, it sucked.

God, ok where do I start? I love Ready Player one so much that I have the book personally signed with my name and everything. That book helped me through such a dark period of my life that re-reading it is an emotional rollercoaster. I bought Ready Player Two a week after it came out and it has sat on my shelf ever since. I didn’t want to read it because the book holds such precious memories for me that if RP2 was bad I would be very VERY upset. The movie was a disaster so finding out there was a Ready player two… I didn’t know what to expect.
Reading this book is like finally getting an ice cream cone after years of not having one and then dropping it on the ground. I have a hate and love for this book that I can’t even begin to describe. I love the universe, I love the concept of the OASIS and absolutely love the concept of the ONI. After reading other peoples reviews, I have to agree that this is just Sword Art Online done worse. I enjoyed the artificial intelligence aspect, especially Kira but it was just done so badly. It wasn’t explained that well and I had to kinda stop sometimes because I didn’t know wtf I was reading. The collection of the seven shards was done so quickly that it just made all of it scrambled together and the only shard part I enjoyed was through the virtual school/wade’s treehouse.
I am not a huge fan of lord of the rings so all the references just flew over my head and tbh I think it would for anyone else who hasn’t watched the movies. At least the first book gave some explanations but this one not at all. So I was stuck just imagining random characters with little detail.
I enjoyed the ending, to be honest I cried because I felt like it was an ok enough ending for the characters I loved. It was ok. That’s it. It wasn’t fucking amazing like the last book and him winning the prize.. it was just meh.
When I thought the author couldn’t make Wade an even bigger asshole it turns out I was wrong. I hated Wade KINDA in the first book but I just chalked it up to the author not knowing how to make a good male character. Ok, that was fine, I could overlook the very large misogynistic and stalker tendencies but that was still a huge critic of the first book for me. Damn, the second book just made him EVEN WORSE!!!! I was definitely waiting for Wade to get SOS and just die because I hated how whiny he was. I still love Artemis and Aech, and even Shoto! They’re still amazing but Wade just became more of a terrible human.
Nolan Sorrento was huge part of the last book and his death was mediocre, he gets mentioned like twice, one of them being when he dies. For such an important character last book you’d think we’d spend more time understanding him or focusing on him. Nope, instead we get a stalker, sociopath Anorak who’s gone off the rails. I hated this character arc for Anorak because at least last book he was just a recluse. No no, this book he has no empathy, uploads peoples brains without permission and almost kills everybody. I hated every second of it and I wanted to skip through it just to keep going.
Skylar, the leader of the low-five was just put there for representation. That pissed me off to NO end when I realized she wasn’t going to be in the book more. The author just wanted to throw some terribly written diversity in and then call it a day. I wish they focused on her character more because she seemed like a total badass.
Anyway, I’ll probably read this book in a couple years and give a more updated review cause I’m heated right now. In my mind, this book isn’t canon and the high five just lived their billion dollar lives saving the world and being happy. First book should have been a stand alone.

Brilliant. So painstakingly brilliant.

I dnfed this book about 2 years ago. I enjoyed the beginning immensely but I lost my interest as soon as the war started. Let me tell you, I was completely wrong.

Let me start off with Rin. An intelligent, stubborn, absolutely fierce young woman. I love her character, in some aspects she reminds me of Azula from Avatar the last air bender. She is driven with such hate and anger that it fuels her actions. In some ways, I even relate to her myself. She craves revenge so bad she is willing to burn down entire countries to do so. I love it. I love how she is written. She has her weaknesses and she has those who she idolizes. She has those she hates with such force and those she would put herself in harms way for. Rin has incredible depth.

I loved reading about her time at Singuard. Her emotional hatred for Nezha and the drive she had to succeed was written so well. When she pledged Lore I was so excited. I love Jiang and completely agree with him, she has let out a force she cannot put back. I’m so excited to watch her burn.
I’m reading this book and all I see is a brilliant villain in the making, I love it. This book set up exactly what I want from a series, a good political intrigue, an amazingly written culture, and a beautifully set up villain.

I also loved hating Altan. I didn’t like him from the very beginning, mostly because he dragged Rin on. Rin was his play thing, and still is, although now she is more powerful than Altan ever was. He was verbally and even physically abusive sometimes, but Rin still followed along like a little puppy dog. You get a lot of depth from him also, I mean his entire country was slaughtered, who wouldn’t be a little bit UPSET about that? He had every right to be seeking revenge and now he has passed that legacy onto Rin.

Jiang, probably my favorite character. Damn, I love that man. He’s right though, if only Rin would have listened!!

I have no complaints about the writing style. It was written beautifully! It was challenging but easy enough to follow along if you were paying good attention. Definitely going to be reading the rest of the series.

Update: changing my rating to a 5 because I cant stop thinking about this BOOK!!

Geez, where do I begin. I remember reading this book in 8th grade but I didn’t finish it. It has been on my mind every since then and I decided to pick it up two days ago. It took me two days to finish, which is pretty quick (although it is a YA book) I really related to Cassie in the sense of not knowing my place in the world or feeling trapped by my feelings.
I love the way the author describes things, it makes me feel really seen. I’m glad I saved reading this book  all the way through now that I’m older because I just  relate much more. I would recommend to friends and I’m definitely gonna buy my own personal copy :)

Note: I’m making this a 5 star because I can’t stop thinking about it months later!!!!!
