What a cute, fun and thrilling mystery that’s all about the books!
Greta Plank, the Larkspur library director, on a clue cataloging chase to find the killer of her dear friend and famous book collector before she is wrongfully convicted by the new detective in town.
This is my first Leah Dobrinska mystery, and certainly won’t be my last!

Semi-autobiographical with psychological directness and lyrical rage—this is James Baldwin’s first American Classic.
Johnson Grimes is a 14-year-old boy who is grappling with his identity as the stepson of a Harlem minister. Through the highs of hope and the lows of despair, this book covers everything race, religion, and sexuality.

This was a heartbreaking and incredibly frustrating read. The story follows Rukshana Ali’s experience as a queer Bangladesh teen who must hide her authentic self (and girlfriend) from her Muslim family.
From her judgmental friends, confused girlfriend, and terrified parents, Rukshana experiences so much abuse in this book that it made me nauseous.
After all the terrible things her family did to her throughout this book, I felt that the resolution felt a little rushed and unrealistic. Culture and/or religion can be such a horrific combination.

“It is a sad fact of life that if a young woman is unlucky enough to come into the world without expectations, she had better do all she can to ensure she is born beautiful.”
I LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK. If you’ve been aching for another Jane Austen novel, this will wholly satisfy you. Oh, my goodness.
This story follows the shy, introverted, plain younger sister, Mary, as she tries to find love. Along the way, she experiences many heartaches, but learns the wait was worth it.
It had a little bit of all the Jane Austen novels in one. Beautiful. Perfect.

Gossamer by Lois Lowry

“We are imaginary and we live within.”
I started reading this on the last day one of my dearest friends reached out to me for the last time. I finished it a day after his birthday. All of this is to point out the irony that, in the later stages of our friendship, he messaged me about his dreams—the really good and the really bad. It was hard not to think of him as I was reading this.
I hope that when he went to bed that final night, Gossamer was at his bedside, releasing him gently to paradise.
