Lake Child by Isabel Ashdown
3.0
This book was incredibly slow to start with and a little predictable. It went round and round in circles for a long time to begin with!
Once it got going more stuff started to happen but I wasn’t really gripped by the story line and it wasn’t exactly a shock ‘twist’.
I’ve given the book 3 stars rather than 2 due to the easy writing style and the fact it tied up all the lose ends nicely.

The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult
5.0
Jodi Picoult has written another excellent book here!
It explores multiple moral dilemmas and had me torn as the reader.
The writing is very easy to read and flows very well. There is one main storyline but with mini-plots off to the side that did not distract, only added.
There were multiple points of view but it wasn’t confusing at any point! I knew exactly what was going on and was intrigued throughout!
The accounts from the Holocaust and Auschwitz are harrowing and eye-opening (I know it’s fiction but the general feel and background are not).
I would recommend this book! Im sure that although it is only August, it will still be up there in my top 2019 reads!

Divorce Is Murder by Elka Ray

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review! I’ve given it 4 out of 5 stars!
The story was easy to follow despite it dipping between flash backs and the present. I did not get confused, it was very clear to tell where we were, which some authors don’t manage to achieve.
Overall, the writing style fitted very well with what I typically like to read! I finished it in only a couple of sittings, I felt an attachment to the characters and was invested in what happened throughout! Felt myself muttering under my breaths and points when I disagreed with what they were doing! (My equivalent at shouting at the tv/film when someone does something I don’t approve of

One for My Baby by Tony Parsons

I didn’t get a great deal from this book. I didn’t feel too attached to any of the characters or the need to know how the story ended. It took me longer to read than it should have done because I didn’t feel too compelled to pick it back up!
The storyline seemed to meander and dip in and out of side plots which I felt didn’t get balanced amounts of attention.
Some bits were very muddled and confusing.
I didn’t see the main point or message in the book if i’m honest, it’s lost on me...
However, the writing style itself was easy enough to read and there were snippets of humour which I got on with.

This in my opinion is the best book of the series so far. I’m hoping the rest are all just as good or better!
Mayhem, Murder and the PTA by Dave Cravens

I was gifted an e-copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review to form part of the virtual book tour.
Must be honest, i'm not the biggest fan of the cover - but what is that famous saying again? oh yeah - don't judge a book by it's cover.
The early stages of the book were funny and a very entertaining read but I didn't really understand the purpose or the emergence of the main story line. Shortly, this changed and I was immediately hooked in to the book.
I love the mystery that threaded itself throughout the story and the family pulls along the way. The characters were all very well developed and I felt a very good attachment to them all, which is quite rare for me.
The language, humour and writing style with Dave adopted throughout this book was right up my street. Probably wouldn't be suitable for a younger audience due to language and sexual references.
Another aspect I enjoyed was Parker's thoughts in italics throughout the book. This really added to her likability and understanding of her personality - for me anyway.
I gave this book a 4 stars out of 5. I would recommend. Narrowly missed out on the 5 start rating due to the slower than necessary start.

I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk

This book massively grew on me. In the beginning I wasn’t so sure about it! It had received a lot of hype and it initially was a let down.
However, when I got into it a bit more I got really attached to the characters and really invested in Angela’s decisions and how her life was unfolding!
It’s a great simple idea for a book, written well. Very easy to follow and at a good pace for me.
I am excited to read the rest of the series and see what Angela does next!
I’ve given it a 4 star and I would recommend if this is your genre!

Love and Other Mistakes by Jessica Kate

I’m glad I got past the beginning of the book because once it started to unfold I REALLY enjoyed it!
I was heavily invested in Nat’s choices and Her juggling of relationships with her family, Jem, Sam and her internship!
I enjoyed the split points of view, I think they were written very well!
I enjoyed Lili’s storyline and how her and her family relationships worked. Jem’s relationship with his dad also brought another dynamic to the story!
It had enough drama and pace to keep me hooked until the end (which I loved).
The religious theme throughout wasn’t for me personally, but I could read past it to suit.
4 stars out of 5 due to a slower beginning and the religious elements.

Read in one sitting!
An easy to read children’s book with a story that resonates. Beautifully written and so much more than what it seems from the synopsis.
Probably one I’ll only read once. Don’t want to post any spoilers so you’ll have to just read it yourself to find out!

The Loving Husband by Christobel Kent

2 stars is being generous in my opinion for this book.
The writing style is too drawn out and disjointed! The points of view and time periods jump around far too much and rather than keep me interested at a cliff hanger it pushed me further away.
The plot was ridiculous and the characters annoyed me! I felt no connection at all!
The twists made me roll my eyes and I struggled to pick it back up. I forced myself to finish it in hopes that it would all come together at the end but alas, it led to more disappointment.
