When I read this, I didn’t realize it was part of a series. That being said, it didn’t matter. I fell in love with Tara and Holly. I love a good fake dating trope and this one was fun because the characters were actually crushing on each other anyway. As the novel progressed and Tara and Holly got to actually know each other beyond the superficial crush, the book was hard to put down. I definitely want to go back and read the rest of this series now!

Two ex-friends meet Juliet and both want to date her. So they decide to create a competition to see who earns the right to ask her out. Of course Juliet is unaware this is going on, which seems kind of creepy to me. The immaturity of Emma and Caleb during this part of the novel is a turn-off. But once they started genuinely interacting, it turned around. There were a few funny moments, and I liked the author’s writing style.

Friends turned enemies, Logan and Rosemary reunite to give their mentor and friend, Joe, one final road trip. Rosemary is a Type A planner, and Logan is more fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants, which leads to interesting exchanges on this road trip. The apparent love the two have for Joe makes this trip heartwarming and heart-wrenching at the same time. This was a beautiful literary journey.

This is a great start to a new mystery series starring Vandy, a private investigator who returns to her hometown after her law enforcement career ended. Her first case involves the mayor’s nephew and what starts as a routine cheating case turns into a murder investigation. I really enjoyed Vandy’s character. She is both vulnerable and tough, not taking crap from anyone. I really liked the way the story was written and how it progressed although it was a little slow at times. I am looking forward to the second in the series.

This was a twisty YA thriller that I enjoyed very much. The writing kept me engaged, and I couldn't wait for the mystery to unravel. I look forward to more from this author.

That Prince Is Mine by Jayci Lee

Book #99 read in 2024
I'm a sucker for royal romances and culinary characters, so this was one I definitely wanted to read. Emma doesn't believe in love and focuses her entire life on her goal of opening a Korean culinary school. Prince Michel, on the other hand, is desperate to avoid the arranged marriage his family has planned for him. When he meets Emma, he falls head over heels and has his work cut out for him to win her over. His exuberance was a little far-fetched and it gave the book a cheesy feel. But it was a fun read overall and perfect as a little escape.

My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan
3.5
Book #98 read in 2024
Julia Whelan brings characters to life in every book she narrates, including this one. The characters in this book were not the easiest to connect with though. Ella has big plans in her year studying abroad, but she didn't factor Jamie into those plans. What starts out as promising, takes a dramatic turn that really changed the book for me and it becomes heavy. That was not what I was expecting and having gone into the story blind, I didn't know that maybe this was the wrong time for this read in my life. That being said, Julia Whelan is so talented and I will continue reading and listening to her!

In this 58th installment of the series, Even and her team are on the hunt for a serial killer who injects his teenage victims with a deadly drug. Just a quick pinprick, and they are dead. I loved the uniqueness of the crime and, as always, the NYSPD team, plus Roarke. Susan Ericksen's narration was suburb!

The Memo by Lauren Mechling, Rachel Dodes

Book #96 read in 2024
Heading into her college reunion, Jenny feels like she's the only one who didn't get the memo on life. Turns out, she was right. When Jenny finally gets her memo, she has to decide whether to accept it. To live her best life, Jenny must go back and "fix" what she did wrong the first time.
In a "Sliding Doors" type of story, we see Jenny in two parallel lives. Flipping back and forth between what could be and what actually is, I was drawn to the story. I didn't buy into some parts of it, like the romance. However, Jenny's friendship with Geeta is a highlight in both storylines. Overall, this was a unique and interesting story!

I picked this up after reading such great reviews and wasn't disappointed. I didn't realize until I came here to review it that it was a part of a series, although it read great as a standalone. I love Lily and Henry, so I am excited to read the other books in the series. The way this was written was unique. As soon I would get attached to a character, something would happen. It's best to go into this blind, so I don't want to say too much, but it was a ride!
