Insomniacs after school, Vol. 3 by Makoto Ojiro, Valentina Vignola
3.5

My first Stephen King book ! First off, nobody told me his writing is exceptionally good? Like classic level good? I didn't expect that at all... the premise was interesting but the characters not so much, nor likeable. Billy was alright, everyone else sucked. The ending was alright, although I would've liked it if it were a little less vague, even if David himself admits it's vague. Don't get the wrong idea; I will most certainly continue to read Stephen King's books if I end up feeling in the mood to read one, I just can't rate a book higher than what I've given this if it has little characterisation. I mean I did just decide to read this because of the 🎃 season we're in right now and not for any character-driven elements so I'm really not at all complaining !!

Giovanni's Room is not just a 'gay' story, or a story about two homosexuals in which one of them is in denial about being gay. This is a story about a man who has trouble fitting into the norms of society, a man who has difficulty making up his mind on how he should live life. Although the subject may seem too broad or intimidating, at its core it's quite touching and even relatable. The underlining messages and themes of this book make this such an interesting and explorative read that is immensely thought-provoking, making me wonder and ponder on foreign concepts I would've never even had the slightest thought of if without this book.
So very unforgettable and wonderful. As I am assigned to write an essay on this book, I am thrilled to get to know this story more with each reread. Though I'm worried my copy will get too full of notes and annotations that it'll fall apart...

I liked this but it felt repetitive and it didn't really lead to anything? The artwork was disgustingly beautiful as I had expected, and the creepy eeriness is as present as you would expect it to be, but I didn't feel satisfied with how it ended like I did with Uzumaki.
Overall it was still good but I wouldn't recommend this as a starter point to getting into Junji Ito's works.

"Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash."
Certainly not life changing, but it felt very humane and was just a story about two individuals falling in love and reuniting 15 years later. Felt so cozy while reading this book, had a lovely time reading this ❤️

I barely scraped the surface of this book's true meaning, thus I cannot give it a rating. The Stranger is a novel in which it takes multiple reads to understand it, and that's exactly what I'll be doing. Rating this a 2 or 1 star because I didn't quite fully appreciate it would be a complete injustice.

Enemies to lovers? More like rivals to lovers to enemies
Too trope-y and the romance didn't hit like I was expecting it to but I can't deny, it was very hooking right from the start and the writing was decent, especially for a debut author. I'm hoping that as the series goes on, the tropes and world-building branch out into more original concepts.
That cover though? I can't go without mentioning how stunning it is!

The Rest of Us Just Live Here is a book that characterises people who would usually be the "background" characters of another regular novel, while the background characters are the ones who would usually be the "main" characters. This is such an interesting concept that drove me into reading this, and like The Knife of Never Letting Go, I was not disappointed. Books like these that switch the cards are such refreshers and the ones that stand out to me in the long run. Patrick Ness does a fantastic job at accurately making these characters feel real, humane and very relatable which makes you feel more connected with them. I certainly felt like I had a connection to these fictional characters that I would never be able to actually interact with obviously. I was hooked from the start and it made me wonder if stories with characters who are completely different from real life humans would be better if the actual "typical" characters of those stories had light shone on them more frequently, in genres like fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian ect.. Although I know not everyone feels this way—some people enjoy stories with heavy action and exciting characters that do things we would never be able to do. If you're into that, I wouldn't suggest this as it would definitely bore you. But I like both sides of the spectrum so I did enjoy this.
Anywho, I had a great time with this book. And I'm looking forward to reading more of Patrick Ness's work. He's got such a diverse catalogue of stories so I have no idea what to expect, which makes me even more excited :))
